Mouse tail: the history of hair

Over the years, the "mouse tail" hairstyle—named for its long, sleek tail at the nape of the neck—has served as a statement piece as well as a symbol of rebellion. This distinctive look has a long history that has developed across many eras and cultures.

The mouse tail was once common among specific subcultures as a symbol of uniqueness and resistance to social norms. For people who wanted to stand out, its distinctive yet basic appearance made it a favorite.

People of all ages are adopting the mouse tail as a unique and daring hairstyle in today’s fashion. Whether you want to show off your personality or make a subtle statement, this look has a classic appeal with a contemporary twist.

Backstory

And now my hair would like me to confess to all the crimes against it
By nature, my hair is thin, smooth, not thick. Oily scalp. Tail circumference 6 cm. Mouse color, the length grew only slightly below the shoulders, then a wild cross-section. As long as I can remember, they have always been frizzy and electrified. Sector fat on the drum the next day after washing. Oh, how my life would have changed if I had known about the curly method earlier Mom braided ribbons into braids for me to create the appearance of hair. Everyone always told me that I was just unlucky with my hair, you can’t change genetics.

I have always lived with the belief that hair cannot be changed. utilizing what already exists. Maybe this will help me avoid wasting so much money on pointless makeup in the hopes of growing a mane. Shampoo and conditioner were all I used to take care of my hair, if my mom bought it. If not, then screw it; it’s all a scam.

My first transgression is that I disregarded my hair’s needs. We should not depend solely on Mother Nature, as we also need to take care of our hair, as we brush our teeth twice a day.

After I relocated, I altered my diet to include more proteins and fats and less carbohydrates. My hair also expressed gratitude to the altered water quality by growing to the center of my shoulder blades. However, I didn’t even notice it after that. I’ve never known how to take care of my hair because I’ve always believed that nothing will change. Moreover, I’m not even able to braid my hair into a spikelet. However, I just don’t know how (now that I’ve learned to squeeze), so this saved me from ironing, brushing, and all that.

Blond life

After growing bored of my mouse color, I went to a nearby hair salon and requested to be blonded until my hair was white-white. The hairdresser made me feel like a chicken by saying, "no problem." I was unaware that the blonde required toning. Perhaps the hairdresser told me about it, but my limited German comprehension prevented me from understanding her. I consequently spent a lot of time walking around yellow before discovering purple shampoos for blondes. I treated myself to ten Schwarzkopf pieces and a mask from the same line. And that was the start of a happy blonde life!

I used these shampoos and masks every time I washed my hair (once every two days). The yellowness faded pretty quickly, my hair became stiffer because of the dye, the tousled cuticle gave me good volume. I was happy and satisfied with the new color, my mother-in-law tinted my roots with dye Loreal 11.11, and I didn"t even suspect that my hair was gradually using up its resources. Of course, this shampoo is not harsh, but it dries, and in care only a silicone mask. But the color turned out gorgeous! A year has passed in this mode. Perhaps the hair lasted so long due to the constant saturation of the purple shampoo pigment, plus oily scalp as a natural protection.

Crime number two: failing to take the enormous care that is EXPLICITLY required of blondes. nutrition, moisturizing, restoration, and tinting.

My blonde hair started to fall out of me in big clumps, but all good things eventually come to an end. They snapped like a pair of scissors, and the hair got shorter and shorter. I raised the alarm when my husband chopped off my "gorgeous curls" all the way down to my ears. Even my naturally bad hair had never looked so pitiful, after all. As I went through old pictures, I discovered that, apparently, my hair was normal! But my hands were crooked, and my skull was empty. Shtosh.

Third crime: thinking your hair is horrible. Bad hair does not exist; instead, there are health issues and improper (inappropriate) care.

My frantic searches on the internet for "how to save the rest of your hair" brought me to DaRi’s posts, which provided very clear instructions on how to survive. From the bottom of my heart, thank you! I began assembling a fairly standard hair care regimen based on the format of this and numerous other posts. A specific type of product materialized in my supply closet.

Schwarzkopf Bonacure Moisture Kick Hair Mask
This mask made my hair smooth from unravelable tow without weighing it down. Very slippery, untangles and smoothes it out like a charm. It is positioned as a moisturizing one, but in addition to moisturizing components, it contains proteins for restoration. And a handful of silicone. Schwarzkopf BC Bonacure Moisture Kick Spray Conditioner
Two-phase spray conditioner, leave-in care. You are probably all familiar with this guy, well untangles and smoothes fur, contains proteins. It is difficult to overdo it, a cool finishing spray, makes combing easier. Schwarzkopf BC Bonacure Repair Rescue Shampoo
Just a sulfate shampoo with silicones and caring components Schwarzkopf Bonacure Oil Miracle Rose Oil
A regular silicone leave-in with an amazing smell. Use it for the ends, do not apply it to the scalp, contrary to the instructions. A very light product, it is also difficult to overdo it. Therefore, for thick and coarse hair it will be like a poultice for a dead person, but for “dandelions” it is just right. Redken Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine
The oil nourishes well, smoothes down the fluff, gives smoothness and some heaviness. Applied as a mask before washing hair for 2-3 hours. Very oily, “makes clean hair dirty” instantly if applied as a leave-in. So only before washing your hair. Lanza Trauma Treatment Mask for Damaged and Colored Hair
This is just the bomb! I used this beauty both as a livin (leave-in cream) and as a mask. The composition is very rich: in addition to silicones, there are many different extracts, proteins, oils. The effect on the hair is amazing: chic, shine, beauty! Even curls the curl a little. Very light and smoothing, does not weigh down, smells magical. Thanks to DaRi for this tip too

First KGM samples

This was under my supervision up until I discovered KGM while reading through Hairmaniak. I realized that my "cobwebs" are actually just unruly wavy hair that needs to be soaked with water and given time to curl peacefully after reading posts about curls. The initial KGM experiments were amusing; a funny nest developed on my head, naturally, and I was unable to tie my ponytails properly. Now, there was squeezing, plopping, and drying through a sieve.

I purchased a mask—Garnier Fructis Aloe Superfood, as most of you are probably aware—in order to try KGM. A thin moisturizing cream free of silicones For the initial kgm experiments on light, thin hair, you will need a living, conditioner, and mask—a three-in-one package. I can now say that the mask is weak after using other curly products, but initially I bought it "for a feast, and for the world, and for good people."

Silicone-free Superfood, naturally, made a broom out of the killed blonde, but sometimes even with a hint of curls, despite the fact that the styling gel was completely “not according to the canon”. Now I understand that there was no livin, so the hair was stiff. I was very curious to continue to deal with curls, anyway, the rest of the length can no longer be saved. So I started to collect new care for myself. Many products that can be found in Russia (Kaaral, Natura Siberica, Tresemme, DNC silk for hair) are not available in Germany, so I had to rack my brains and understand the composition of local cosmetics and comb through German curly bloggers. But brands such as Cantu, Balea and Lavera can be found even in supermarket. As a result, my collection was replenished with the following KGM products:

Alverde Locken Shampoo Bio-Leinsamen und Bio-Traube
Sulfate shampoo with coco-glucoside and coco-sulfate. Doesn"t tangle, has moisturizing components and even a little protein for appearance. I have oily scalp, shampoo washes thoroughly and gently. Conditioner Langhaarmädchen Lovely Long Conditioner Mandelblüte&Arganöl
This is my alternative to the well-known and (almost) universally beloved coconut Tresemme Botanique. Very slippery, so it detangles perfectly. Contains argan oil and proteins. Doesn"t weigh down, the bombastic aroma of sweet almonds remains in the hair for a long time. Livin Cantu Curl Activator Cream
It was after buying this can that I finally understood how livin (leave-in treatment) transforms hair. It locks in moisture in the hair after washing, does not allow the air to “suck out” all the water. Cantu products are very fat, and this cream is also dense and nutritious, but, to surprise, I still did not manage to overdo it with it. It fits perfectly under the gel, and without the gel it makes the hair seem thicker and more voluminous. Favorite! Only the persistent smell of sweet pina colada is already driving me a little crazy Balea Winter Protect Haarbalsam Mask
Mask for protecting and restoring hair in winter. In fact, of course, you can use it at any time of the year, but it only appears on the shelves of the DM store from September to March. Very rich composition! Shea butter, moisturizing alcohols and 4 types of proteins at the top of the list. This mask is best used under a cap, warm it up and keep it on for a couple of hours. The smell of creamy ice cream. Girls from Europe, don"t miss this find, it costs 3 euros I don"t know if it"s possible to get the mask in Russia, it"s not on iHerb. Taft Power Invisible 5 Gel
Really invisible, no flakes and gluing. It holds fine wavy hair well, structures curls well. Curls don"t fall apart immediately when you go outside. Inexpensive workhorse, everything is super.

And when it came to moisturizing, Garnier Fructis Aloe Superfood remained vigilant. Additionally, I purchased a diffuser for myself, and I now view it as the primary tool for the curly method! I gradually learned how to take care of my wavy hair with this set. I even occasionally received such beauty! These outcomes gave me new hope that my hair can look amazing as well.

A distinctive and frequently contentious hairstyle with a long history, the "mouse tail" represents rebellion, cultural changes, and individual expression. This subculture-inspired look has a history of being a fashion statement as well as a sign of nonconformity. It has changed over time while keeping its unique edge.

Conclusions and observations

I’ll take this opportunity to offer some guidance to those who have thin, light "baby" hair. More accurately, these are my personal observations rather than recommendations.

Hair care is a very personal experience. While it makes sense to concentrate on similar hair types, you will ultimately need to test everything out and observe how it affects your own hair. As an illustration, Livin Cantu Despite the heavy reviews I’d read, my girlfriend seemed to really enjoy it.

You don"t need to ignore the "standard" hair care tips: comb your hair carefully, use gentle elastic bands, don"t rub your hair with a towel, making fire out of it, don"t make a turban by twisting wet hair into a spiral. It is necessary to protect your hair from the cold and the sun, cut off split ends in time, which can no longer be saved. All these aspects add up to a careful attitude towards your hair, and, as a result, a decrease in fragility and the development of a dense length.
Read the posts of Rapunzel KATe_RINa, when knots appear, she untangles them with a needle! With a needle, imagine! Small knots in the hair! Instead of just ripping them out with a comb. This is what the most careful attitude means.

You can walk around with your hair wrapped in a cloth for fifteen minutes without worrying about plooping. Squeezing sparse, thin hair with your hands is sufficient to keep it sufficiently moist for applying livin and then squeezing with gel.

However, you cannot omit Livin! This, in my opinion, is one of the most crucial caregiving steps. Livin (leave-in, leave-in cream, fluid, etc.) is applied to the length of the hair (not the roots) after washing and stays there until the next wash; it is what keeps the moisture in the hair and envelops and protects it throughout this time. Livin is your best friend whether you use gel or not. As a result, you should exercise extreme caution when selecting a leave-in caregiver. Cream is the best choice. Cream always has nourishing oils, moisturizers, and very little styling added. I currently have three of them for various events.

For waves or curls, a diffuser works wonders. You shouldn’t press thin, light hair against your head as this will result in creases and zigzag waves.

If you’ve become a hair maniac, you should clear up a lot of space on your phone so you can snap pictures of your hairstyle development all the time.
