Knowing what works best for your hair is essential, whether you’re looking for the ideal hair tie or choosing between natural silk and a more expensive option like Armani Silk. While the correct product can enhance your style and maintain the health of your hair, the wrong one can lead to breakage.
Different materials have different advantages when it comes to hair ties. There are several distinct options available from brands like Gloria Jeans, Anotherz, Silk Lovers, and Invisibobble. The spiral design of Invisibobble is renowned for its ability to ease hair tension, whereas Silk Lovers specializes in smooth and luxurious silk. Conversely, Gloria Jeans and Anotherz provide a more affordable selection, but are they as good?
We will also examine the differences between Armani Silk and natural silk. Although they both promise shine and smoothness, their differences may influence your decision. What is the useful silk for hair
Because of its smooth surface, silk fabric is thought to improve the condition of the curls.
Chinese beauties’ hair is secretly beautiful because they rub silk strands through it.
Sounds convincingly magical but not. Is everything really that simple? Simply run a smooth piece of cloth over the strands?
I used rubber bands IVisibobble for a long time. They’re smooth as well. The primary benefit of "springs" is their ability to hold hair at various levels rather than pulling the tail in one direction. According to the manufacturer, this lessens brittleness, lessens friction between hairs, and prevents crumpled hair from showing up on the canvas of loose hair.
I had a great time using these extras. They don’t, in my opinion, ruin your hair. The company unveiled a line of natural silk elastic bands the previous year. I purchased a few. That there was just a regular elastic band inside disappointed me. Not a springtime thing. Ivisibobble currently comes in fabric elastic bands with a "telephone wire" at the base, but the official website makes no mention of the product’s 100% silk content.
I’ve been wearing mostly silk accessories since the start of this year. Magic has definitely entered my hair care routine since Natasha Natalia_in_love gave me an airy elastic band made of blue silk. Despite the fact that there is a regular elastic band holding the ponytail in place beneath the delicate material, I have not noticed any deterioration in the quality of my hair after using it every day for almost a year.
The elastic band adorned with silk looks elegant and sophisticated. even if it was just a simple low ponytail. holds it beautifully and looks amazing on a lot of people. Ideal for securing pigtails. Sharing a bed with her comes in handy.
A sleek accessory slides over hair with ease. The process of putting on socks will slide if you are not wearing tights. The low caliber of the product is not discussed here. All it takes is one more turn to get the elastic band to hold steady. My feelings tell me that it doesn’t damage my hair.
The type of material used for hair accessories can have a significant impact. Armani silk’s silky texture makes it glide over hair with ease and less friction, but natural fabrics can occasionally cause more tugging. From snag-free elastics to opulent silk scrunchies, brands like Gloria Jeans, Anotherz, Silk Lovers, and Invisibobble provide a range of choices. I’ll compare these accessories in this review and discuss my impressions of their comfort, robustness, and ability to keep hair from breaking.
Types of silk
Threads obtained from the cocoon of the Chinese large white mulberry silkworm caterpillar. possess a triangle portion that makes the cloth from them shine. The silk thread has a length of 900 meters and a strength that is on par with steel of the same thickness.
Starting point
History claims that before our time, they mastered the art of extracting silk threads in China. The method of production was kept completely secret for 3000 years. Silk fabric was prized for its useful qualities and delicate beauty. Clothes from it were only worn by noble people.
In ancient Europe, exquisite matter was praised for its beauty and quality. Expensive silk was used as currency in the Roman Empire. This was the start of the Great Silk Road, a commercial route that linked Asia and Europe for centuries. One of its routes, so history books tell us, passed through the North Caucasus, where I am writing these words.
Europe had mastered the production of silk by the year 550 AD. Legend has it that silkworm larvae carried the seeds of the mulberry tree, or "mulberry," to Byzantium.
Manufacturing
Taking care of silkworm butterflies is the first step towards producing valuable material. Bombyx mori is among the best species for making the finest quality silk. These are blind butterflies that are specially bred to be unable to fly. Their sole existence is to lay eggs to produce silk threads.
In five to six days, a single butterfly can lay up to 500 larvae before it perishes. The larva gives way to a caterpillar after ten or twelve more days. For a month, the insect is fed clean leaves from mulberry trees that are grown especially for it.
One kilogram of silk requires 6,000 silkworms.
A gland that makes up 40% of a silkworm’s weight generates a mass made up of 18 amino acids, fibrillar protein, and sericin. When the caterpillar is ready to pupate, it uses the mass to make silk thread. slender, gentle, robust, and glossy. The larva forms a cocoon within three days by wrapping its entire body in a single thread.
The cocoons are gathered at the appropriate time and treated with hot steam, which causes the insect to perish. Chinese cuisine uses the processed larvae to make a variety of dishes. After being cleaned and moistened, empty cocoons are unwound to a single thread using specialized machinery. It yields the lightest, thinnest, most beautiful-looking silk fabric.
At last, the Chinese secret to gorgeous hair is revealed! It makes sense given the composition of the silk threads. The silkworm larvae are protected from external elements like humidity fluctuations and UV rays by the cocoon it forms. favorable characteristics for hair.
Not every mulberry butterfly has been tamed. Furthermore, wild silkworms exist. They also make silk from their cocoons.
Mulberry
A premium quality silk derived from domesticated Bombyx mori butterflies, whose larvae consume only mulberry leaves. There are 1,500 meters of threads.
Pearl or white in hue. Simple to color. handmade and devoid of artificial processing.
Tussah
The cocoons of wild silkworms, which inhabit natural environments and consume mulberry, birch, and oak leaves, are used to make the threads for this variety.
Brown or copper-red in color. lost its best qualities when bleached in order to be dyed in different shades. The thread’s integrity is compromised. The material turns into cotton wool and loses its sheen and softness. utilized in the creation of furniture with upholstery.
Satin
Silk threads are braided in various ways, twisted, and folded several at a time. The fabric is named satin (stress on the last syllable) because of one of these weaves, known as satin weave. The material’s apparent density is what makes it unique. However, unlike traditional silk, smoothness and shine are only partial attributes. The second one is slightly rough and matte.
Satin fabric can be made of 100% silk threads. There are also mixtures with the addition of cotton, viscose, nylon. They give the material strength, wear resistance and affordability.
Satin is thought to be careless in handling but does not wrinkle. become dull from repeated washings.
Armani
Many products made of Armani silk will appear in search results when you type in "silk hair band" online. This material is entirely synthetic and merely bears a passing resemblance to silk. composed of polyester. has no silkworm threads in it.
Artificial silk has benefits and drawbacks of its own. Armani is more cost-effective than natural fabric, but it is electrified. The latter is detrimental to hair. Magnified threads produce an uncomfortable feeling.
Conclusion
Natural silk comes in two varieties: mulberry and tussah. Silk threads are woven into satin, sometimes combined with other materials. Only the appearance of a valuable fabric is produced by Armani silk. It is devoid of attributes.
They are all used in the manufacturing of different kinds of goods. The topic of hair products interests me. I’ll discuss my thoughts on the application of various materials positioned as silk in the accessories section below.
My experience
Satin ribbon
I don’t think I ever had satin elastic bands on. However, I had ribbons. They work well for hair braiding. The interlacing has a lovely, feminine appearance. You can leave the ends unfastened and tie a bow to finish it. Another option is to weave them entirely. The waves will then form all the way up to the cut after they have unraveled.
The knot does not untie; it just becomes less tight over night or during the day. There is no unraveling of the braid. One classifies satin as a heavy material. I wasn’t aware of the ribbon, if that makes any sense. It didn’t get in the way.
Satin ribbons eventually coil into a tube, shiny side out. They become distinctly unclean. They can run into problems. Density declines. They lose their luster, form, and appearance with frequent use. My own did not get charged.
I burned the fabric with a lighter to stop it from unraveling where I had made the cut. There is a black crust over the burned area. It has a mediocre appearance. It holds firmly. The fabric doesn’t creep, and this end doesn’t crumble.
The shape does not return after hand washing with natural laundry soap. It does not last long after using a clothes iron.
The softness of satin varies. It is softer, in my opinion, the more silk thread there is in it. More supple satin ribbons maintain their luster and cleanliness for an extended period of time.
I had ribbons in my braid for three years at that time. I didn’t observe any detrimental effects on my hair during this period.
Nowadays, I don’t use satin ribbons. Weaned. There are pictures of hair with red ribbons in my earlier publications. These are merely satin.
Silk elastic
Silk varies not only in type but also in weave and density. Momi, or shortened mm, is the unit of measurement.
One momme is equivalent to 4.34 grams of silk per square meter of cloth.
I mostly came across 16 and 19 mm hair accessories. When I make a purchase, I consider this factor. Momi is not mentioned in the description of the satin or synthetic silk product. The fabric is denser the higher the number.
I made use of 16 and 19 mm rubber bands.
- 19 mm. – thin, light and durable material. Retains all its qualities for a long time.
- 16 mm. – more fragile. Wrinkles more. However, it does not lose its characteristic shine and tenderness.
Invisibobble
Hair accessory brand from England. first gained notoriety for its rubber spiral-shaped elastic bands, shaped like telephone wires. For its time, the invention was revolutionary. Ultimately, it secures the hair ponytail intermittently rather than along a single parallel. This gets rid of aesthetic flaws like a concave strip running the length of the hair. The selection of accessories to enhance the beauty of the hairstyle is still growing.
I purchased a few copies in beige and purple hues as soon as I heard about the silk collection. How wonderful, in my opinion, that there won’t be any creases and that it will also be silky smooth. Unfortunately, the tail is not multi-level fixed. The most common elastic band is inside.
- I did not think about such a parameter as momi at that time. I do not know it.
- For a 7 cm tail. 4 turns in girth.
It’s just the beige elastic band that’s holding on. The purple one is no longer functional because it has stretched so much.
In contrast to other silk products, I can affirm that this is made entirely of natural silk. The fabric has a pearl sheen and is delicate and soft. The product is expertly stitched together. There isn’t a single prominent thread. The seams remained intact. Honorably, Invisibobble endured multiple hand washings. The softness and sheen remained unchanged. There was no fading of color.
The fact that some of the folds on this model were worn through to holes is its lone flaw.
Silk Lovers
Russian company making goods made entirely of real silk. The line includes products that enhance femininity, health, and beauty. Towels, clothing, jewelry, sleep masks, hair accessories, and more.
Everything about this manufacturer is flawless. Amazingly gorgeous shades, designs, and presentation of the product are all excellent. I occasionally visit their website purely for the purpose of appreciating feminine and beauty aesthetics.
On the market, my daughter discovered Silk Lovers hair ties. For the kids, we purchased the Standart model at a very substantial savings. in shades of coffee and purple for fair-haired individuals. The company also manufactures giant-sized products. Mini is thin as well.
Mulberry silk that is entirely natural 19 mothers
- Diameter 6 cm. Width 3 cm. Length in a stretched state 18 cm.
- On the tail 8 cm. in girth – 3 turns.
Coffee-colored shade
A little with green. For light blond with Oksana"s hair gold. Looks organic, calm, restrained. The accessory does not pull attention to himself, does not overshadow the beauty of the braid.
It’s a purple hue.
In between the colors purple and pink. Alesi, for medium-blinking hair. With rich hues, the contrasting color type appears better. The elastic band appears vivid without being overly garish.
We’ve been using our elastic bands every day for the past five months. Not the fabric, but the elastic bands themselves stretched during this period. Silk maintained its luster and softness. There was not a single puff. The seams failed to open up. No color fading has occurred. Only the Latin letter S—which stands for the brand—was removed from the label.
It is recommended by the manufacturer to wash SL products once a week. hands and when using air-conditioned liquid cleaning products. It wasn’t until I was about to write this review that I learned about this. Our hair ties were cleaned three times. merely because they remain clean. The shade gets cleaner after being cleaned. Return of volume and airiness. Folds align themselves.
Silk does not constrict. never fades. doesn’t flex.
Both the fabric density and the Standard model appeal to me. The hair in the ponytail appears thicker when tied with a voluminous hair tie than when it is thin. During prolonged and vigorous use, the product maintained its initial appearance. will consistently satisfy the girls.
Anotherz
The same hair tie with pistachios that gave me the idea to write this post. The majority of the clothing available from this brand is for women. elastic bands in both classic and current colors. Three dimensions. Standard is medium for me. There are big and thin ones (I couldn’t find their names).
16 mommi of pure natural Mulberry silk
It was twice as cheap as Silk Lovers when I placed my order. The comparison between these two brands was intriguing. Do silk elastic bands made by different manufacturers differ from one another, or are they all the same and you can use any?
It is narrower than Silk Lovers, in comparison. There is more internal elastic. Both shine and softness are the same. There is less density. I noticed that threads were coming out of the fabric after wearing it for two days. not from the materials used to sew the product, but rather from the material itself. This is also present in SL, though it’s much more subtle and only really noticeable if you look closely.
- Diameter 5 cm.
- For the tail 7 cm. in girth 3 turns
There are more folds in this elastic than in SL because of its smaller diameter and width. It has greater volume.
My tail shrank to a girth of 6 cm following the hair loss. The density is gradually returned. Currently 7 cm in circumference. I use three turns to braid the Anotherz elastic. SL—with four.
The stitching is just as good as it is in the previously mentioned examples. There is no label on it. The delicate material and shade of this elastic made me fall head over heels in love.
Shade of Pistachio
Tidy. for my crimson hair. The product’s color adorns the strands. highlights how brilliant they are. doesn’t lead to garishness.
Rayon
Gloria Copeland
Russian clothing brand for men, women, and kids. Its profile does not include hairpins or silk items.
This was a gift of an elastic band. Looks stunning from a distance. similar to a fluffy cake! pale tint. You can tell right away that this is a different material when you look closer.
Superior quality Armani silk
We’ve had this item for the past two months. It does not, in my opinion, possess the qualities of silk. becomes distinctly dirty. The substance is coarse. glossy sheen. drawing in. The level of craftsmanship is mediocre. Seams have protruding threads. The band of elastic is thick and wide.
The item appears to be nice at first look. However, you realize that silk is more beautiful when you have something to compare it to. Richer, more elegant, and thinner.
Crinkles from the elastic band on the hair canvas
You can use the best cosmetics, cut the ends of your hair to the ideal length, and dye it the color you want, but all your hard work to achieve beauty will be undone by one hall from the gum. This entire length of the strip is concave. By combing, it cannot be eliminated. Just collect the curls into a braid, bun, or ponytail.
Several factors, in my experience, contribute to the formation of a fold:
- Hair type and condition
- What products did you wash your hair with
- How did your hair dry
- What kind of hair clip.
I’m not sure about a straight structure, but my curly hair has a tendency to bend when it encounters obstacles. Curly hair, in my opinion, is more likely to fold from accessories. If I’m mistaken, kindly correct me in the comments.
There is a vast array of products available in the cosmetic market. There were some under my supervision that aid in the strands’ formation. And others that purposefully straighten the canvas, on the other hand. The likelihood of folds decreases if you choose the latter.
My curly hair has shown me that they take on shape as they dry. I let the strands dry straight if I want the canvas to be smooth. And I only gather in a tail or bundle once I’ve dried completely.
The hair might dry straight, but if it does so in a humid environment, the hairpin residue will still be visible. We’re back to cosmetics now. Cosmetics should be used appropriately—against humidity—if curls are undesirable. Frequently bears the "anti-frizz" mark.
When comparing "telephone wire" to a standard elastic band, I’ll state that the former has no streak. even in cases where the makeup has a memory for style. There won’t be a noticeable streak, but in the worst case there will be some crumpling.
The image of my hair with the same finishing product is below, however
- on the left – the photo was taken on the day of washing my hair, 2.5 hours later. The hair was gathered with an Invisibobble silk elastic band, not yet dry;
- on the right – the photo was taken on the second day after washing my hair. During these two days, my hair was tied with an Anotherz elastic band with 2 turns (loosely) and completely dry.
Experience has taught me that in my situation, it’s crucial to let the hairpin dry in its proper place so that there are no creases.

The way your hair feels and looks can be greatly altered by selecting the appropriate hair accessories. Gum made of various materials, such as cotton or silk, can have different effects on hair ties. Known for its superior quality, Armani silk is far softer and more opulent than natural silk, making it a better choice for people who want to reduce hair damage.
Because of its spiral design, which offers a firm hold without leaving hair stains or headaches, Invisibobble has become more and more popular. In contrast, Silk Lovers specializes in making silk ties that are silky and non-slip, ideal for people with fine or delicate hair. Anotherz provides a selection of stylish yet comfortable accessories that are playful and fashionable.
