Hair can now be strengthened and smoothed with keratin treatments, leaving it shiny and silky. However, the outcomes may differ based on how well you take care of your hair afterwards. In 2022, many keratin treatment recipients participated in a hair care marathon to discuss their experiences and demonstrate the longevity of their results with appropriate maintenance.
This post will discuss the main lessons learned from that marathon and highlight the best hair care practices and products employed by competitors. After a keratin treatment, we’ll explore what worked best for maintaining frizz-free, silky hair, from daily upkeep to long-term improvements.
This information will help you get the most out of your hair care routine, whether you’re thinking about getting a keratin treatment or are looking for suggestions to prolong the life of one. Let’s examine the 2022 hair care marathon results to see what actually helped the participants.

Keratin and care
Many girls—mostly those who don’t talk about hair care—believe that their hair will stay shiny and gorgeous after getting keratin straightened; all you have to do is wash it with the right kind of shampoo. This is untrue.
Indeed, keratin straightens hair. Indeed, it makes the strands softer and simpler to style. You, however, must put in the remaining effort to create a stunning canvas.
What specific actions are necessary to make your hair shiny and pleasing? Since every person’s hair is unique, there is no one-size-fits-all recipe. I’ll share with you the conclusions I was able to draw from the marathon.
My hair, let me remind you:
- Damaged
- Dry along the length
- Brittle, split
- Thin
- Straightened with an iron for a long time.
Emphasis on moisturizing
In the three months I spent by myself getting a keratin procedure done on my hair, I came to the primary conclusion that, even though they seem "healthy," they are still damaged (just like with colored blonde hair). Above all, damaged hair has an affinity for alcohol.
That is to say, moisturizing products that can partially (if not completely) restore the moisture deficit work best for me right now. I therefore base my whole hair care routine on moisturizing products.
I chose the top one during the marathon:
- Kerastase Ciment Thermique Leave-in Thermal Protective Cream
- Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream Leave-in Memory Cream
- Kaaral Moisturizing and Restorative Ampoules Restructure
- Conditioner Tresemme Botanique Detox
- Mask Kaaral Hydra
- Lebel Viege mask
And I even created a post that features these goods, with the exception of the Moroccanoil cream:
- Kerastase is famous not for its words, but for its deeds
Every moisturizing treatment I seal my hair with rich, fatty leave-in oils that create a sort of film on the hair’s surface, keeping moisture locked in and stopping it from escaping.
Conclusion
Moisturizing hair after keratin straightening is not only a luxury—it is essential for its health and beauty. Nevertheless, keep in mind that your hair is damaged and that you should treat it as such. Select potent moisturizing products; lean more toward high-end than low-end brands.
Products without weighting
Obesity is easy to achieve with thin hair. The task of not weighing down is multiplied by two when using the keratin straightening factor because, as I mentioned above, the hair is damaged and requires strong care.
Nothing can be mistaken for overweight (overfed) hair; instead, it:
- get into separate strands
- lie sadly
- do not shine
- quickly lose freshness.
Although this is an unpleasant occurrence, every hair maniac will eventually encounter it. Typically, nourishing and restorative products can have this kind of effect, especially when exposed for a long time and heated further. But wearing masks all the time and dousing them in conditioner can also make it heavier.
Strong conditioners should be used every day and should be alternated with masks at least every other time to avoid heavy, depressing hair. When experimenting with a restorative or nourishing product, it is best to follow the manufacturer’s recommended application method and timing. Avoid heating up or overexposing the hair.
Should the product fail to produce the intended result, you may begin experimenting, but proceed with caution.
Several conditioners that functioned no worse than masks but did not produce a weighting effect were included in my marathon care:
- Angel Professional Marine Depth SPA for all hair types
- Dr. Sorbie Silk
- Dr. Sorbie Moisture
Even a post concerning Dr. Sorbie conditioners exists:
However, I rarely use the Smooth mask from the same brand because it can weigh my hair down if I suddenly overexpose it, and I’m still not sure what the secret is to its nourishing heart.
Conclusion
After keratin straightening, gaining weight is easy, especially if your hair is thin. Select superior salon conditioners to use in between masks. Conditioner should not be applied over strong masks. Before overexposing yourself or beginning to warm up a restorative or nourishing mask, give it some thought.
A suitable cleansing option
You will probably need to wash your hair more frequently after keratin straightening—not because the scalp produces sebum more quickly, but rather because the hair loses its shiny, clean look more quickly.
And since you’re washing your hair so frequently, you should really select a good cleanser, like kovosh or shampoo.
I suggest using a moderately mild product to wash your scalp every day to gently cleanse it without drying it out. In addition, I would advise switching between mild and stronger shampoos when using one.
Many stylists suggest using special shampoos (mostly containing mild surfactants) for keratin straightening, but I suggest using the cleansing option that works best for your scalp.
If you use a sulfate-free product on a regular basis on oily skin, even though you know and feel that it is bad for your skin, your skin will probably rebel and show up as hair loss, acne, and clogged pores. It is very easy to have problems (both literally and figuratively) on your head, but it is far more challenging to rid yourself of them. As a result, think for yourself instead of listening to stylists who want to sell you their product.
There are currently only two shampoos under my care; the first is an excellent primary shampoo and the second is an auxiliary shampoo designed for deeper cleansing:
- Daily Barex re-hyrda with banana flower and giant algae on sodium coquette sulfate
- Typically sulfate Love beauty and planet Volume and generosity.
Barex shampoo is my go-to cleaning product; I adore it so much that after using 250 ml, I went out and bought a liter right away. It smells wonderful, cleans effectively but gently, doesn’t dry out or tangle roots, doesn’t interfere with other care, and doesn’t build up.
I don’t feel very reverent toward Love Beauty and Planet; it’s just a good sulfate that I use to wash my hair once a week before ampoule care (for deeper penetration of useful substances into the hair). I’ll crack open a bottle of my favorite LV when it runs out.
Conclusion
Selecting the appropriate shampoo puts you half of the way there. It is the cornerstone of good hygiene. Never believe the experts who claim that if you don’t use special shampoos, your keratin will wash off in a month. For starters, long-term scalp issues are far more serious than a temporary washout of the effect, and secondly, keratin compositions made today are far more resistant to sulfates.
Careful attitude
I think the first thing you should do is treat your hair with caution. Procedures, leave-in products, and masks are all meaningless without it. Furthermore, having keratin in your hair won’t help you.
- Choose professional hair combs that will not tear or pull your strands.
- Comb slowly, with smooth movements, starting from the ends and gradually moving up.
- Don"t forget to wash your comb. If you rarely wash this accessory, you spread dust and sebum accumulated on the teeth all over the hair.
- Choose soft hair ties that will not leave creases in your hair and increase breakage in the long run.
- Tie your hair up in strong winds.
- Hide your hair under hats in frosty weather and under a hat, cap or scarf in strong sun.
- Tie your hair up at night or just throw it up. This way you minimize friction pillow.
- Choose sharp haircut scissors.
- Do not try wet hair with a towel, but carefully, smearing movements, squeeze excess water.
- Do not overexpose a towel on your hair, it is fraught with dryness.
- Dry hair with a hairdryer in the direction of hair growth, using not too hot air.
- Love your hair and take care of it as if they are the most beautiful in the world, and then they will answer you the same.
Draw attention to these guidelines for your hair, abide by them, and you’ll notice a change.
Conclusion
Because keratin straightening increases the sensitivity of the hair, taking extra care of it is highly recommended.
Mandatory drying with a hairdryer
The warm air from the hairdryer must be exposed to the hair in order for it to be perfectly straight after keratin treatment. I always use my breasts to dry my hair because it doesn’t lie differently and can even hang there (especially the front strands, where I have an unbreakable curl).
Make use of superior professional brawing that won’t rip or gather hairs as it dries.
The hair strands come out smoother and shinier because I always dry (!) in the direction that the hair grows. After my hair has finished drying, I "polish" it with a brush and a cool air stream to add more shine and durability to my style (yes, I can still get waves). In this manner, there is a 90% chance that your hair won’t go into waves after a demanding day or while you sleep with your hair tied up.
However, it’s crucial to remember that using a hair dryer to dry hair always produces a thermal effect, so you should always use leave-in care—ideally with a warning about thermal protection—as these products also expand when heat is applied.
I employed four strategies for thermal protection during the marathon:
- Kerastase Ciment Thermique
- Kerastase Nectar Thermique
- Loreal Professional Mythic Oil
- Loreal Professonal Gold Quinoa
My personal favorite and amazing moisturizer is Cement Thermique, so much so that I ordered an extra one for myself. Nectar is the term for nourishing cream, which I’ve put in the back drawer until winter since I haven’t figured out how to use it yet.
I’m searching for the ideal blend for misik oil, which is cool thermal protection with a nourishing effect that you can use without oil at other times. After spending 2.5 years on the shelf, gold quinoa is an elderly man under my care. It hasn’t lost any of its qualities or deteriorated over this time, but I’m really sick of it. Furthermore, it is notably less effective than its counterparts in terms of thermal protection. I rarely use it, so I’m not sure if I should throw it away or keep it. Approximately 25% of the tube is unused.
Conclusion
You need to use a hair dryer to dry your hair perfectly straight and shiny. In the direction that hair grows, dry your hair. When drying, use high-quality accessories. Remember to take care of leave-ins with a thermal protection function.
The results of a 2022 hair care marathon that concentrated on post-keratin treatments demonstrated that regular, appropriate maintenance is essential to maintaining healthy, shiny, and smooth hair. By adhering to a basic regimen involving sulfate-free shampoos, moisturizing conditioners, and heat protection products, participants were able to extend the benefits of the keratin treatment and minimize breakage and frizz. Hair strength and appearance were also maintained with regular trims and avoidance of harsh chemicals.
About products: what’s gone and what’s come
I currently use a lot, a lot, of rinse-off products. Their ranks are notably thin as a result. Throughout the marathon, I depleted:
- Tresseme Filler Effect Shampoo. A good basic shampoo that cleans and doesn"t dry out. Suitable for daily use, but didn"t wow. There"s not much to say about it. Won"t repeat.
- Yves Rocher low poo douceur kovosh. A typical kovosh. I tried three versions of a similar cleanser and they all caused the same emotions, differing only in smell and color, while Yves Rocher has the highest price tag of all tested. The tube lasted for 5 times. I"m not a fan of kovoshes, I rarely use them, but the product is cool. Will repeat if necessary.
- La"dor LD Programs 01 Treatment. I couldn"t fit it into any scheme, I just finished it and forgot. In a small format it caused much more emotions. Perhaps I"ll repeat in a 20 ml volume.
- Dr Conditioner. Sorbie Moisture. My opinion about it has not changed: an excellent conditioner around which you can build care. However, I liked him more while straightening my hair with an iron, after keratin something changed. Perhaps I repeat.
- DR. Sorbie Silk. Another arable horse, no worse than his brother Moses, is just a little different. Moisturizes, nourishes, smoothes, gives shine. But as in the case above, he stopped causing such strong emotions as after an iron. Perhaps I repeat.
- Tressemme Botanique Detox air conditioning. Knowed almost 800 ml for the marathon. funds, believing that my second bottle ends. I will repeat without fail.
- Barex Re-Hydra shampoo with a banana flower and giant algae. 250 ml. just flew away, immediately purchased a liter to replace. Favorite shampoo – and that says it all. Repeat.
It continues a few times:
- Karal Hydra mask. Adore! I panicked when I saw that she was very few and immediately ordered 2 pieces in stock. Moisturization legend – no more or less. It fits perfectly into hair care after keratin, so I will buy more and more. Of course I will repeat!
- Angel Professional Depth SPA conditioner for all hair types. Nourishing beauty. Works great both on its own and in tandem with ampoules. Hair after it is soft, shiny, moderately heavy. I will repeat in large quantities.
- Tresemme Botanique Detox conditioner. I use it in tail and mane: on its own, together with ampoules, I close masks. Inexpensive, but wonderful. Causes only positive emotions. Repeated, repeat and will repeat.
- Cafe mimi Express hair mask. Disgusting nastiness. No matter how I use it, the result is always the same – rough dirty hair. It managed to ruin even the effect of direct pigment Concept, I have never wanted to wash my hair SO much in my life! I will not finish this mask even on pre-pu, ugh-ugh. It will fly into the trash. I will never repeat!
I bought and opened the following:
- Kaaral Restructure Ampoules. Need no introduction. I really loved them. In general, I noticed that with ampoule care, my hair began to feel better.
- Dikson Ristrutturante ampoules. I haven"t figured them out yet, but since I"ve already bought a whole pack, I"ll look for an approach.
- Kezy Vitamin Lotion ampoules. Yes, another one. And I"m not listing the ampoules I tried in a single copy. Initially, I ordered Kezy Mineral lotion, but the cunning seller sent me the wrong thing. But I really liked these Kezys too.
- Milbon Elujuda Fluent Oil (FO). It"s been in my care for a short time, but from the first use I realized that this is love! Moderately heavy, greasy, smells like lemon marmalade, and what a jar it has! Well, just sunshine in a bottle.
- GK Argan Serum. Light, without weighing down, smells incredibly of dry herbs and honey. I use it in nutritional bundles.
- Oil Ellips Vitamin Hair Treatment. Silicone on silicone and silicone is driven. It seems not bad, but nothing special. I am choosing the perfect pair for it.
- Sim Sensitive tonic. A chic stimulator that perfectly dispersed my growth. Wrote a post about him.
- Lebel Viege mask. Darling of many, and I am no exception. Redeled at a bargain price and which I have been happy for a week. I alternate her with a hydra.
- Morrocanoil Hydrating Styling Cream indelible. The latest remedy open. It"s too early to draw conclusions, but damn it, likes! But it is easy to overdo it with it, you need to select a portion (and a portion of oil also needs to be measured very carefully). I noticed that the hair with him looks better than the first.

After receiving a keratin treatment, you must take care of your hair to keep its shine and smoothness. The outcomes of the 2022 marathon have demonstrated that keratin benefits can be prolonged and hair can remain frizz-free for longer with regular, mild care.
The best results were obtained by participants who avoided heat styling and stuck to a regimen of moisturizing conditioners and sulfate-free shampoos. Even months after the treatment, their hair remained soft, manageable, and healthy.
In the end, appropriate post-keratin care can have a discernible impact. You can get the most out of your treatment and maintain the beautiful appearance of your hair if you follow the suggested instructions.
