For a variety of reasons, hair can change over time, and noticing those changes can be unsettling or even startling. Maintaining healthy hair requires knowing whether your hair is thinning, losing its shine, or becoming brittle.
Age, nutrition, stress, and even exposure to the environment can affect the look and texture of hair. Simple changes to one’s lifestyle or hair care regimen can occasionally have a significant impact.
In order to help you maintain the best possible condition for your locks, we’ll go over common causes of hair shifts and solutions in this post.

What happened to the hair
I’ll admit that it took me a while to realize there was a problem with my hair. I bleached my hair again at the start of the summer, which obviously degraded the quality. And I blamed the state following dyeing for the care errors. I followed the tried-and-true route, which always helped me deal with damage: drinking more water and getting more rest. But not right now.
All of June had, in my opinion, autumnal weather: chilly, wet, and gloomy. Usually, when there is little to no heating, this occurs during the off-season. The humidity of the air rises. Usually, this phase ends quickly with drought, and I don’t even adjust my care. This time, too, I was blind to the weather shift and the residual dampness.
8 July 2022. 23°C air temperature and 91% humidity
Hair became light and fluffy. Like a rag, it’s too soft. The hair just hangs sadly, with no elasticity. Curls, is incredibly malleable, and loses all shape quickly. I never thought I could be so fluffy—no volume, but lots of fluff. And the issue is not resolved by putting leave-in products in a sandwich. To be honest, hair annoyed me, making me feel even more depressed. Regardless of the method used—hairdryer, no hairdryer, various leave-in product combinations—the protruding hair persisted, making me look like a dandelions.
This picture captures the hair’s state—a lot of fluff—exactly. I had no idea it would get worse when I took this picture.
Such weak hair easily gets tangled and even gets tied in knots. Constantly tangling hair has become an even bigger problem, since hair is already fragile and thin. For quite a long time, I considered this weak-willed tangle and the ability of hair to roll into a felt boot as a consequence of dyeing. You know, it’s very unpleasant to wake up in the morning and spend a long time sorting out your tangled cobwebs, and yet I thought this problem had been solved long ago! For me, severe tangling always indicates that something is wrong with my hair. Fragility increased, the ends of my hair creaked. Fillers solved the problem temporarily, until the first wash.
I came across over-moisturizing without having to leave my house. I had only ever experienced over-moisturizing once, during a trip to the sea. Since it was brief and long ago, prior experience was not helpful in identifying the issue. Thus, if you feel that your hair is overly moisturizing and it has stopped pleasing you, what should you look out for?
Signs of over-moisturizing
- hair takes a long time to dry
- severe frizz
- loss of hair shine
- excessive softness and lightness of hair, hair like a child’s
- loss of elasticity – hair is limp, does not hold its shape well
- hair is very tangled
- increased fragility
Overhydration in curly hair can result in stretched-out, limp curls.
Over-hydrated hair is a loose, fluffy cloud that is weak-willed, dull, and unmanageable.
In fact, over-moisturizing is a major topic on our website. And everyone knows that seasonality, water quality, climate, and place of residence all have an impact on hair. Everyone is prepared for extreme humidity and has stocked up on the essentials before heading out to sea.
But it surprised me to run into such a problem. Ultimately, I stayed put and did not alter my treatment. The erratic Ural summer forced me to reschedule. Summer had not arrived at all! Not only does excessive moisturizing have an unattractive appearance, but it also causes brittleness and length loss. Thus, it is critical to recognize the issue and find a quick solution.

Age, environment, health, and lifestyle modifications can alter the texture, thickness, and general appearance of hair over time. Instead of becoming upset about their hair’s changes, people who are aware of these changes can modify their hair care regimens and accept the natural process.
Help with over-hydration
My hair only looked nicer thanks to two things: a hair dryer and proteins.
I stopped using Karaal Hydra, added protein products to my regimen (the DEMI ICE POLARIS mask), and used a hair dryer to dry my hair after every wash. Simple and uncomplicated. And very quickly—my hair restoration took roughly a week to complete. I took a lot longer to comprehend the issue.
Proteins
The main helper when it comes to overhydration is protein. The DEMI ICE POLARIS mask was selected because it has lysine, an amino acid, and hydrolyzed eggshell membrane. I recalled this mask’s impressions from the previous dry summer, how well it thickened, and how much I missed its moisture. Using it in an environment with high humidity completely changed my perception of it. DEMI ICE POLARIS performed flawlessly. thickened and fed the hair. smoothed out the protruding hairs and restored elasticity to the worn-out ends. My hair has at last become stronger and more shiny!
I only needed three consecutive applications for full restoration, and the mask did not even consider to show any side effects—it did not cause the ends to become stiff like it had in earlier applications. A minor finding: the same mask can function differently on the same hair depending on the circumstances. As it happened, the DEMI ICE POLARIS mask has the ideal balance for my hair, even with high humidity.
Balance in care
Care balance is fundamental to the fundamentals. You don’t need to use moisturizers in addition when the humidity is high. The environment provides enough moisture for hair. I took the Lakme Master Care Oil ampoules and the Karaal Hydra mask out of my plans. Although trying the moisturizing Barex Re-Hydration Mask was not the best course of action under these circumstances, curiosity prevailed. Thus, the mask was stored away until winter. Balance in care: in high humidity or during a dry heat wave, it will be entirely different. Remember to adjust your care routines in response to shifting environmental conditions.
Hairdryer
Hairdryer use had a significant effect. I used to frequently let my hair air dry after washing because of the warm but humid weather as well as laziness. I was unaware that it took my hair several hours to dry, longer than usual. It took particularly long for the root zone to dry. I made the decision one day to braid my still-wet hair before going to bed in order to wake up with gorgeous waves. It’s also one of my go-to, tried-and-true styling techniques. You can imagine my surprise when I woke up with still-wet hair!
I now only use a hairdryer to dry it; luckily, Kerastase provides excellent thermal protection. A Nutritive Nectar Thermique sachet is in order. There are just two settings on my old Polaris: hot and very hot. A "cold blow" button is also present. The hair dryer is lightweight, portable, and does an excellent job of drying and styling hair. My workhorse won’t be changing anytime soon. My hair’s appearance has been getting better little by little; the loose, fluffy texture is starting to take on the typical, beloved appearance of silky, flowing hair.
Film formers
The recommendations also say that it is necessary to use products to "seal" the hair cuticle. That is, to create a protective film on the surface of the hair. This method works not only in hot conditions, so that moisture does not leave the hair. But also in humid conditions – so that excess moisture does not penetrate inside.
For this, products with silicones and film formers, conditioners with an acidic pH, oils as leave-in products are suitable. As a blonde, this point is constantly fulfilled for me – not a single wash is complete without applying a sandwich of leave-in products. Both the QTEM Instant Strong Effect cream spray, and the finish oil Olioseta oro Marocco Love Potion has silicones.
Herbs
Using herbs is another powerful strategy to prevent overhydration. This is not surprising, since the tanning properties of herbal masks always dry out the hair and cause it to become thicker.
I temporarily gave up on herbs in the battle for color brightness and didn’t test the technique. Having used herbs extensively in the past, I am confident that this approach is effective.
Hairstyles
I wanted to wear my hair loose, but it was not in a condition that would make it look nice, and most often I collected it in hairstyles, mainly buns and different types of braids. It did not save from frizz. But it was the braids that gave me the idea of cold styling. With this method of curling, the hairs are well smoothed, disciplined, there are almost no fluff. The curls look smooth and elastic. During the day, of course, the hair is still a little fluffy and the curls are no longer so tidy, but in the chaos of the curls it is not as noticeable as on straight hair.
In contrast to using a curling iron, cold styling leaves hair undamaged, is simple to achieve, and frequently lasts until the next wash. Although my masks have styling memory-containing components, I did not use any specific styling or fixing products. Braids and buns are my two favorite lazy hairstyles for getting curls. A good way to cover up and smooth out protruding hairs is with cold styling.
If the hair has a tendency to curl, styling with the KGM method is another way to make the situation look better. This superpower was given to my hair after bleaching. Although the lack of styling caused the curls to quickly stretch out, silicones in care did not stop the curls from forming. But I also enjoy these kind of gentle waves.
Of course, young women with curly hair could disagree with me regarding the curls and fluff. I simply adore curls, especially fluffy ones, and I find that squeezing them wet and letting them dry without combing is the quickest way to achieve curls. My hair has always looked best with curls when it’s well-moisturized. In my opinion, this hairstyle’s fluff is less obvious.
