Unsuccessful hair coloring? My story of getting out of henna with Estel paint

We’ve all had the experience of an ambitious hair color experiment gone wrong. When I made the decision to try henna for the first time, I was not an exception. When the color didn’t work out as expected, what had initially seemed like a sensible and natural choice swiftly became a nightmare. I regretted my choice because I was left with an uneven, boring hue rather than a bright new look.

I had to figure out a way to clean up this mess. I discovered Estel paint as a possible rescue after doing extensive research and reading a ton of reviews. I had high hopes that this would solve my disastrous hair coloring situation. In this post, I’ll discuss my personal experience using Estel paint to return my henna-damaged hair to a more tolerable and gorgeous shade.

I’ll take you through every stage of the procedure, from the difficulties I encountered to the outcomes in the end. My experience may provide some insightful information and helpful hints if you’re facing a similar circumstance or are simply inquiring about hair color remedies.

A little history of my hair

I’ve had my hair colored differently for fourteen long years. In elementary school, my dear mother and herbs gave me my first coloring lesson. From there, it was a series of trial and error until I was able to create a finished picture. Further information is available here. Then came the first failed coloring attempt: a horrible lightning that was covered in a dark color the following day.

I have purposefully chosen to grow my hair naturally since December 2020. Myths about natural hair ruled my thoughts: superior hair quality, perfect color complementarity, and effortless maintenance were presumed. Initially, the outcome was very pleasing; the natural shade was a chilly blond that was about 7-8 ugt.

Sadly, as it expanded, it was clear how out of sync my appearance and my color were. My eyes became obviously dull, and my face appeared to be "lost" in the muted gray shade of my hair. I veered off the growing path. The quote accurately captures the main reason:

Theoretically, I lived in harmony with my natural color. There was no desire to alter anything. I didn’t value it, though. I didn’t find the image appealing. I found it annoying to look at photos of my hair.

Furthermore, not a single myth regarding natural hair was realized. Apart from lightening, the quality was the worst it had ever been in my hair’s history; a subdued tone suggested makeup was present, and the level of care remained unchanged.

Herbal coloring was the following step. High-quality Indian henna was selected, and the desired result was a natural shade devoid of a nuclear red tint. I turned a noticeable shade of red as my hair’s affinity for herbs proved to be stronger than my plans and technology.

Regretfully, issues emerged from an unanticipated angle – the henna caused scalp issues. It is difficult to entirely remove even the tiniest herb particles from hair. Even with my best efforts to thoroughly rinse my head with a gentle shampoo or co-loser after staining, some grains still manage to cling to the skin and cause irritation.

Herbs also cause the skin to feel notably dry. For me, this effect served as a lifesaver during my adolescent years and allowed me to prolong the freshness of my hairstyles for one more day. Since the skin is now in the conditional "norm," any major changes to its ability to regulate itself result in a reaction that manifests as peeling, itching, and dandruff.

I entered a vicious cycle after coloring the henna: "Herbs – breaking of the scalp – treatment of scalp – herbs." It was determined that Lavsonia, a fenior cassyah, had the greatest impact on everyone. The most recent tulsi and soap nut mask was well received.

I was able to enjoy my hairmaniac routine even with the overly bright color and scalp issues caused by henna coloring! Stocks of Vieso and Angel Provence were refilled, and new treatment plans and techniques were incorporated into the care. The hair kept growing by leaps and bounds and steadily improved in quality.

Henna effectively highlighted the green eyes and facial features in comparison to the pastel "light" natural color. I felt so good about the image change that I was eager to move on.

I didn’t need fire on my head to match the fire in my eyes anymore. A hair color that was too vivid did not align with my goal.

Choosing a dye and the desired color

I learned from an experienced henna artist that a bright, bold hair color and a strong warm shade clash with my appearance and emotions. I sketched out a rough range of wishes after looking at pictures of a young person with a slightly stormy disposition: no less than 6 UGT, neutral, cold undertone.

Two choices then become apparent:

HBB tinting. incorporating henna into the mixture along with additional herbs like basma.

The website features some incredible examples of writers who used Ayurvedic herbs to create a brown shade. But there are a few subtleties. My hair is prone to natural coloring, and there’s too much chance that it will darken or turn black. It is very hard to change the color after basma. This is what may cause undesirable coloring or lightening in the future.

Synthetic coloring. Professional hair "painting."

The simplest way to alter the color. A broad color range and the option to select any undertone. However, the paint won’t produce super-effects of density and visual thickness like herbs do. Chemical coloring, on the other hand, ruins the structure of hair. Even when the questionable basis is taken into consideration, the intended outcome is virtually certain.

In the spring, I realized that the average length of the desired color will make me much happier than natural hair below the waist.

I purchased a Concept Fresh Up blonde tint balm prior to doing a full coloring thanks to the sage advice of the girls on Hairmaniac. The idea of "trying on" hair color before coloring and having the option to completely remove it if it didn’t work appealed to me much.

I’ll go into further detail about it in a later post because the balm works wonders as a toner and blends in seamlessly with colored hair care regimens. If you wash your hair often, the effect will last for a week. Naturally, it’s challenging to totally eradicate the red henna; however, the balm made every effort. Dyeing was successful in "trying on"!

The structure and type of "base" dyeing of the hair should be taken into account when selecting a dye.

Thus, my hair:

  • Low-porosity
  • Absolutely straight
  • Very thin
  • Previously dyed with henna
  • No gray hair.

Let’s label this image as a "before" sample of hair at the same time.

I only think about professional dyes. The closest store sells household paints with a high oxide content that can seriously harm hair. Professional painter costs are not that much more than mass market painter costs; however, the quality of color coverage is lower and paint consumption from boxes is much higher. I think it’s better to spend the extra 400 rubles on a high-quality item.

Products from foreign brands are either hard to find or have seen a sharp price increase in the current market conditions. Sometimes the manufacturer is still there in name, but we don’t get many new products or paint shades. I felt it only made sense to share with you my favorite Estel Professional and draw on the expertise of domestic brands.

Provides up to nine lines of expert dyes in different directions, ranging from the "classic" Princess Essex to the direct pigments XTRO. There are also series inside each of them to cater to all hair types.

How should your line and series be chosen? Take note of your hair’s characteristics and the manufacturer’s product description.

Paints that are gray and permanent hard. I hope I never get gray hair because I don’t currently have any. Strong dyes are made to cover gray hair effectively; sadly, this comes at the expense of a harsh attitude toward hair in order to achieve an even and long-lasting color. In this instance, there will be significantly more damage following coloring.

Pastel, ppd, special blondes, and lightening dyes. We’ll make do without blond and inventiveness today. There are options that are gentler, but some lines have the desired near-blond shades. It would be best to look into other series as this group has a unique set of requirements for their work.

Reviews and the availability criterion. I was pushed away from the well-liked Princess by conflicting reviews; instead, I want to use caution and go with the most reliable option. Conversely, the most alluring Haute Couture collection proved to be hard to purchase. My city does not have Couture, and I did not want to wait for an order from the capital.

Paint-Current Estel de Luxe was the winner.

Henna dyeing with Estel De Luxe

There are 125 distinct shades in the primary palette. I wholeheartedly agree with Alexandra Sanya’s statement that Estel technologists did their jobs expertly and provided us with pure, pigmented, long-lasting shades! You can select a dye that best suits the base’s characteristics and the buyer’s varied needs thanks to the multitude of color nuances.

Undoubtedly, the original base affects the final color. Because henna dye has a complex base, not all dyes can fully penetrate the hair, and the final product may look very different from the palette photo. Herbal dye creates a confident layer of henna armor on the outside of the hair without affecting the natural pigment or penetrating the hair. Ammonia dye has the power to overcome stuck henna’s dominance.

As a result, my dye is a blend of light brown ash shades Estel De Luxe 8.1+7.1. Not that I was expecting a cold ash; after all, this is an unlikely result on a henna base. In addition, the palette contains shade 7 for such uses. 11 is a dark ash blonde. A tiny amount of ash pigment can aid in slightly reducing the redness.

I took care of my scalp and waited for the hair loss caused by stress to stop before coloring. Please put off the color change procedure if you are experiencing hair issues.

Because professional dyes require mixing dye and oxide, many people steer clear of them. Actually, contemporary brands create comprehensive instructions and give their customers the best possible care, covering everything from proportions and holding time to selecting an oxide for a particular scenario. Estel includes a sheet of paper in each package that contains instructions on how to use the dye and its composition. Additionally, the brand’s website provides all the information that is required:

The dyeing procedure is simple and fast. My mother, who is my favorite and best hairdresser, was thrilled that the dye application was simpler than with henna. The spreads easily over long hair and has a soft, flexible consistency.

For a henna base, the color turned out to be fairly neutral and even. You can see how successful our experiment was, given that my camera is extremely warm! Regretfully, the hair could not be photographed right away after coloring. However, it appeared before or after in a single location with comparable lighting. picture taken two weeks following surgery.

There has been no alteration in the hair’s quality. Everything is equally lovely and impermeable. The state of the ends might worry a keen reader, but in this case, the reason is extensive hair loss. One coloring lasts for a month tone on tone before progressively fading, so the color washed out over a considerable amount of time. Not a single spot or streak. I was able to keep the color with the aid of the Concept balm mentioned above, which looked like this:

Reaction of others. Toxic naturalness

Less warmth and redness, a return to my natural color, and lastly, EYEBROWS IN BLOOM! made me very happy with the new color! However, other people’s responses startled. Some friends felt that I had stopped growing their color, in their own unique way.

"Have you painted, Fi? You felt something, the man walked away? Okay. But don’t worry, natural hair is great, at least not when it’s that horrible blue.

I thus encountered the current phenomenon of toxic naturalness, or toxic naturalness, for the first time in real life. It’s becoming increasingly common to come across a lot of negative remarks on the network directed at girls who have different haircuts or stains on them. I believe the image from the well-known group below will beautifully capture the essence:

That someone’s mental health in 2023 is correlated with their hair’s length and color shocks me. Hairmaniac: Strictly moderated safe space, but I frequently find the "diagnosis of avatar" on other sites, which I detested.

From the recent. In response to a girl’s question regarding blonde hair color selection, someone writes in the comments, "You lighten your hair so much and dye it (makeup), because you have some problems in the family?" One user mockingly commented, "All my friends have already solved their self-esteem issues and grown long hair without bangs, why do you need them?" in response to another user’s inquiry concerning curtain bangs.

Regretfully, there is a general trend rather than a few exceptional cases. While in my youth having natural hair was considered unusual, nowadays, deviating from the norm of having long hair in one’s own hue is met with criticism. The topic of color dyeing is unworthy of discussion because those who support toxic naturalness quickly associate it with psychological issues and inattention. I do not associate my hair color with any particular psychological condition.

Every color adjustment is deliberate and not based on irrational feelings. Conversely, growing out a natural color was associated with psychologically challenging times (such as ED and depression). Nobody that I have met is willing to look after my mental health. However, colored hair generates more "interest."

Any appropriately styled hair looks good. The color, length, or shape of someone’s hair does not reveal anything about their identity or mental state. Inner harmony is the most important factor. Be distinct, natural, and most importantly, happy!

In addition to demeaning people who cut or color their hair, the toxic naturalness phenomenon minimizes the issues faced by girls who have natural hair color. Ultimately, "what issues can arise when it is lengthy and organic"? All hair choices are respected in the unique environment of HM. Let’s keep things nice and comfortable.

Dyeing with Estel Sensation dye

It was evident after two months that the roots needed to be tinted. Thankfully, toning lets you postpone the process a little.

The success of the first dyeing inspired me to touch up the length once more. Now, I liked the ammonia-free cream paint Estel Sensation in shade 7.11.

Honestly, I forgot about these challenges when I was growing my color. I now have to set aside an additional day each month to visit my parents and spend roughly an hour coloring, washing, and drying my hair. plus the dye’s material costs. Not to my taste. I’m glad my mother helps me out because with my schedule’s quirks, it would be hard to constantly haggle with a reliable hairdresser.

I was bought off by the manufacturer who assured me that their coloring was the softest and most durable. My hair did not get damaged by Classic De Luxe, which was quite satisfactory, but the main objective is to minimize damage. The well-liked Sense has been replaced by Sensation as the primary series.

A benefit of Estelle’s karma: chic packaging in my preferred shade of lilac. Once more, the product is enhanced with the ingredients list and comprehensive guidelines. Sensation contains a precise ratio of dye to oxide of 1:2, in contrast to many other dyes. On the website, all the information is repeated once more.

The oxidizer (3% from the same series) and dye combine very easily. Ayurvedic herb mixes work like magic, but nothing compares to the comfort of a well-made product. Simple, just mix with the left heel for a minute, and you’re ready to color.

I went with L’Oréal Professionnel shampoo and conditioner from the Vitamino Color line for post-coloring care. I intend to write a review of this peculiar duo; the brand has given us some highly contentious merchandise. Still, the products are ideal for the circumstances.

Once again, Estel dye did not let me down! Simple to use, quick (15–20 minutes), and free of spots or stripes all the way along the length. The coating is of fairly good quality, even though the dye is ammonia-free. There’s no sign of the henna’s reddish tint. photo taken the day following the procedure, with the subject pointing into the wind.

And that would be all right, but. Is there a seven here, anyone? In artificial lighting, the hair appears even more brown. The post started off with a collage of me in various pictures, including one from Kapus that has the shade 5.11. According to UGT, level 5 is about the new color, not higher.

What was the mistake

I constantly adhere closely to the manufacturer’s instructions. Correct proportions were used, and the required holding time was not exceeded. Generally speaking, my mother would advise "mix one tube, and then we’ll see." You cannot do that, sorry. You can imagine how long the first one will stay in the dye while the entire length is being dyed + additional dye mixing, even though the timer is based on the final strand.

My choice of shade was incorrect. A cold undertone is always softer than other colors. There are some fairly obvious differences in tone levels among palettes from different manufacturers.

In this post, Le fleurs de Liss wrote a wonderful description of the characteristics of cold shades and the details of how various manufacturers have reproduced them. For instance, compared to many other brands, Lebel Materia dye produces a darker color. My hairdresser told me the same thing about some Matrix lines: the master usually took the dye one level darker than the desired color. Estel Sensation is most likely only from that opera.

I don’t claim to be the source of all knowledge, but I frequently read that ammonia-free dye can have a slightly higher level of expression than "classic" dye. Furthermore, my hair absorbs color very strongly, so it doesn’t matter if it’s chemically dyed, hennaed, or toned. The culmination of these elements produced a more dire outcome than anticipated.

My family members thought poorly of the new image. Everyone noticed right away because I get my hair colored at my parents’ house. The groom was the only one pleased, and he misses my black hair.

My grandmother said that everyone with dark hair looks like old women, and my man is happy that no normal man will look at me anymore. After hearing a few hurtful remarks, I started to lose my cool. The lack of support kills me completely, adding to the unpleasant feeling of a perfect mistake.

And somehow I wound myself up so much, I even started looking for ways to eliminate the unwanted color. In the stream of "folk" methods, kefir, soda, laundry soap and other obscurantism flashed. From the digestible options – professional wash-off and oil masks. Imagining the whole opus of hair problems after diligent color removal, I said to myself "stop".

Is it truly that awful? No, I don’t have spots, peeling, or striped hair. Conversely, some girls aim for a comparable shade. Nothing catastrophic occurred to jeopardize hair length or degrade hair quality after washings.

It’s time to learn to forgive yourself for the mistakes you made. I didn’t alter the hue of my hair.

The idea that the paint would eventually wash off occurred to someone. However, Estel Sensation is an excessively thick hair dye for hair free of ammonia. Though I wash my hair every other day, the shade stayed true to its original form for at least two weeks. After about a month, my hair started to get lighter. Two months had gone by since the unsuccessful dyeing, and I had stopped updating the color at the time of the post.

Issue Description
Initial Problem Henna hair dye turned out uneven and gave an unwanted color.
Decision to Change Decided to switch to Estel paint to fix the henna color.
Preparation Thoroughly washed and conditioned hair to remove henna residue.
Choosing the Paint Selected an Estel paint that matched the desired color.
Application Applied Estel paint carefully, ensuring even coverage.
Results The Estel paint successfully covered the henna and provided a more natural color.
Aftercare Used color-safe shampoos and conditioners to maintain the new color.

Although dealing with an unexpected hair color can be annoying, there are always solutions available, as my experience has shown. Using Estel paint instead of henna proved to be a game-changer when the former failed to produce the desired results. Selecting the appropriate product and exercising patience during the process were crucial.

It’s crucial to keep in mind that color corrections may require multiple steps and can take some time. If your circumstances are similar, don’t let the preliminary outcomes depress you. You can get the desired look with the correct products and method.

Ultimately, I learned from my experience with Estel paint that a little persistence and careful product selection can go a long way. Give yourself some grace and trust the process if you’re having trouble with your hair color; you’ll get it!

It can be annoying to deal with an unexpected result of henna hair coloring, but there are workable solutions. I’ll describe in this post how I used Estel paint to turn a henna disaster into a success. You’ll discover the difficulties I ran into, the actions I took to fix the color, and how you can still pull off a fresh look in the event that your initial attempt didn’t work out.
