Night hair care. Silk accessories: pillowcase, cap, elastic band. Sleeping with a hair clip, braid or “pineapple” – which is better?

The health and appearance of your hair can significantly change if you take care of it at night. Your sleeping habits can either protect your hair or cause breakage and frizz. Make a few easy changes to your nightly routine to maintain the best possible look for your hair.

Due to their ability to lower friction and prevent damage, silk accessories such as hair ties, caps, and pillowcases have gained popularity. Silk, as opposed to cotton, produces a smooth surface that aids in moisture retention and tangle-free hair all night long.

There are various choices to take into consideration when it comes to sleeping hairstyles. A loose braid is preferred by some, a "pineapple" style is used by others, and a hair clip is comforting to others. Although each technique has advantages, the most suitable one will rely on your hair type and preferences.

Sleeping with loose hair

I slept like this for twenty-five years. The position of my hair when I slept did not bother me in the slightest because at that point I was not very interested in conscious hair care.

Because I toss and turn at night, my thin hair would become matted and tangled when I slept with it down, making it difficult to comb in the morning. I believed there was no other way to get rid of the hair for the evening even though the tips were broken and stone. Since I didn’t take hair pictures back then, I have to make do with what I have.

Added to this approach:

  • The easiest way that does not require any accessories.

Cons:

  • Hair interferes, cling while turning;
  • during the night the hairs are very confused and lost.

My two cats, plus one extra, like to come to me at night and make sure to go through my hair and pillow. I hardly ever sleep in this manner anymore since 2018 because it is extremely painful if the hair is dissolved.

I only share personal experiences in my posts. It’s perfectly normal for him to match your preferences or not. Should I express my disapproval of a particular component, tool, or method of care, it indicates that, for me personally, it is not appropriate at this time. I respect the polar opposite viewpoint.

Using silk accessories like pillowcases, caps, and elastic bands can make a big difference by reducing friction and preventing breakage. Proper nighttime hair care is essential to maintaining healthy and beautiful hair. The ideal option for you will depend on your hair type and style objectives, but sleeping with your hair in a clip, braid, or "pineapple" updo all helps shield your strands from harm while you slumber.

Rayon

I first learned about Siller’s dream in January 2018, just before visiting the location, and I started covering the pillow with a handkerchief made of an artificial neck. The hair was washed, arranged in a bunch or braid, and secured with an elastic band (which, as the picture below shows, always crawled over night). The scarf was modest and did not cover the entire surface of the pillow.

The appearance of the hair started to improve along with the initial steps taken in the area of conscious care; the length responded first, followed by the ends.

Advantages:

  • hair remained smooth longer (which is especially important for hair straightened with an iron);
  • reduced tangling after sleep;
  • hair was easier to comb in the morning.

There were a few drawbacks as well:

  • there was a slight electrification of hair after sleep;
  • facial skin on artificial silk did not breathe, and in the summer it could sweat.

Silk stole

I started wrapping my pillow with a stole made of the finest silk that I had purchased in June 2018 over the pillowcase.

Because the stole is very translucent and the pillowcase has a minimal density, the stole was less expensive than the pillowcase, and at the time I could afford such a weightless pleasure.

I wrapped the stole around the pillow by folding it in half, front side up. This sleeping arrangement lasted for two years (until I switched out the stole for a silk pillowcase). It didn’t take long for the benefits of sleeping on natural silk to manifest, and a month later, I was able to share my happiness at not having split ends.

It is significant to note here that my passion for CGM peaked during the time I was sleeping on a silk stole. As a result, in accordance with every curly method tenet, my hair was placed in the "pineapple" before bed and fastened with a spring elastic band (we will discuss this in more detail later). In the morning, the curls were revived.

Benefits of wearing a silk stole:

  • low cost;
  • friction of hairs is minimized, which means fragility and split ends are reduced;
  • frieze is minimized;
  • facial skin is delighted, after sleep there are no creases left on the skin;
  • even in the hottest weather it is cool to sleep on silk;
  • if you simply wrap your curls in a stole (like a turban), the curls will smooth out significantly overnight.

There is just one drawback:

  • I toss and turn a lot in my sleep, and the stole constantly slips. I had to straighten it every morning.

Silk pillowcase

I made the decision to reward myself with a silk pillowcase in May 2020. Oh, how I had anticipated placing my order with this stunning emerald! It’s smooth, cool, and unbelievably pleasant to the touch. I’ve had it every night for the past two years (so much so that I had to replace it with a stole while I washed it).

And yet, as 2022 draws nearer, I’m beginning to use a standard cotton pillowcase again. Why? A silk pillowcase easily becomes soiled. It taught me how sweetly I sleep, if you know what I mean. There was no such aesthetic issue when using a cotton pillowcase. And, of course, my darling kitties developed the habit of napping on my favorite silk pillow, and I felt bad for the silk pillowcase.

Benefits of using silk pillows:

  • minimizes friction of hairs on the pillow;
  • minimizes frieze;
  • even in the hottest weather it is cool to sleep on silk;
  • there are no creases on the skin after sleep.

Con:

  • rather high cost.

Unfortunately, one silk pillowcase is insufficient to keep my tips looking presentable. It matters how hair is taken out at night: whether it is braided or secured in a bun with an elastic band made of silk, crab, or spring.

It all depended on the thickness along the length and the care products used, though, and I saw no difference in overall appearance when sleeping with a spring elastic or a hair clip.

Mini hair clip

We have been incredibly close ever since I gave birth to this child four years ago. helps fix the "home" Gulka, remove hair when dying, endure the mask in the shower, and is essential for very uncommon hair straightening.

I actively fixed the "pineapple" on kgm at night using this accessory. The only drawback to crab is that it must be adjusted to a high level in order to be felt while sleeping. However, I declined to sleep with crab when I needed to protect the curls.

Benefits of using crab to fix the night beam:

  • Krasbik is weightless, does not pull the roots;
  • the curl remains during sleep;
  • crab reliably fixes the bundle;
  • non-traumatic accessory for the length and ends.

Minus:

  • due to the rigidity of the plastic, the crab can be felt during sleep, so most often I made my choice in favor of elastic springs and this was my mistake.

Elastic springs

The real pests are right here! It’s unfortunate that I was unable to understand them for a considerable amount of time, and that they were destroying my sleep every night.

How did I come to understand that the chewing of the ends was a constant result of the elastic bands? incredibly easy. I was constantly unhappy with my ends – partly because they were not thick enough, thanks to strong and prolonged hair loss, partly because they were always wrinkled and brittle. I became so obsessed with cutting the ends that I did it nonstop.

I again removed a few centimeters on October 12, 2021, in the evening. To my surprise, the following morning, the ends were chewed and wrinkly again, as if the previous day’s haircut hadn’t occurred! Sadly, a silk pillowcase was unable to turn things around in this instance. My suspicions were validated when I tried sleeping with a braid; the ends felt lot better after the braid. I haven’t used springs since, but I just can’t bring myself to discard them.

These rubber bands’ "wire" is extremely thin, and a few twists of the spring "chew" and squeeze hair ends, making them appear crumpled in the morning. Over time, this chewing causes the teeth to become more brittle.

Advantages of elastic bands:

  • very popular, sold absolutely everywhere;
  • are absolutely not felt during sleep;
  • securely fixes the bun.

A significant negative:

  • very traumatic to the ends! After sleeping with a spring elastic band, they are crumpled and chewed, accordingly – brittleness increases.

Sleeping with a braid

I began practicing sleeping with a braid in mid-October 2021, as previously mentioned, and I stopped pressing the curls at that point. If hair is braided right away, what good is applying styling products and trying to get the hair to "curl up"? Furthermore, the appearance of a braid after sleeping was comparable to that of pressed curls.

I experimented with using tiny elastic bands to secure the braid and leaving it undone. Because of this, the braid that wasn’t secured fell apart over night, so I decided to use rubber bands.

Benefits of wearing a braid to bed:

  • hair practically does not fluff up during sleep, thereby reducing tangles;
  • the ends are soft and straight, the period between haircuts increases;
  • after unbraiding, beautiful waves are obtained that last throughout the day.

Cons:

  • not suitable for CGM – the formed curl breaks off at the angle;
  • the less dense the length, the smaller the curl will be.

Silk elastic

May 2020 saw the release of the first thin elastic and pillowcase. It was only in March of this year that the second (wide) elastic made its appearance.

The main uses for these elastics are to secure "home" buns and control frizz in freshly dried hair. I’m not sure why, but I didn’t enjoy using such an elastic to fix curls on the CGM. Maybe because the spring kept the bun firmly in place even though it fell off the hair over night.

I don’t use silk elastics to secure braids "for going out." First, because of their size, they concentrate on the ends’ inadequate density. Second, they add to the image as an extra accessory and may contain too many details. For this reason, I tie braids "for going out" with tiny black elastics since they blend in with the background and are undetectable.

Benefits of rubber bands made of silk:

  • careful to the length and ends;
  • look elegant;
  • Fix the bundle well.

Minus:

  • Due to smoothness, they can slip off the hair.

The first silk cap

The appearance of a silk cap in my life one year ago, in April 2022, brought about a revolution in my night care. This radically altered my conception of overnight care.

I wear this particular one-sided cap inside out, that is, with the smooth side facing my hair. I mentioned sleeping in the cap twice because of its amazing effect (in this and this posts).

The best thing about the cap in the context of CGM is that it doesn’t refresh. It is not necessary to re-give a form to the curl in the morning if the cap is not broken. Applying finishing oil is sufficient, and it saves some time. The curls below were only partially dried when they were placed into a cap after being cleaned the previous evening.

Benefits of the current cap model:

  • ideal for short and / or curly hair;
  • if the goal is to keep the curl, then due to the small volume of the cap, the curl will be perfectly preserved, and morning refreshment will not be required (saving time);
  • if you need to straighten the curl – just put it in a bun (no need to fix it), and overnight it will smooth out to large waves;
  • incredible smoothness of hair after sleep!
  • it is not necessary to use any accessories to fix the hair at night;
  • even if you go to bed with damp hair, the hair will not be damaged overnight, and in the morning the hair will lie very well;
  • frizz is minimized;
  • breakage and split ends with this method are minimal, and the ends do not require a haircut for a longer time;
  • The silk is not very dense, the scalp in it breathes, as a result – the freshness of the basal zone is held at the usual level;
  • weightless and does not take up space when traveling.

Cons:

  • unlike a pillowcase, does not have any smoothing effect on the skin of the face;
  • tight elastic band that unbearably presses on the ears. If you raise the elastic higher – the cap inexorably slips off overnight;
  • flat elastic band often twists, and the place of twisting presses unpleasantly, you need to adjust the elastic before putting it on;
  • after removing the cap, the first 20 minutes there are marks on the forehead from the elastic band;
  • after a year of daily use, the silk along the edges of the elastic band began to wear out, most of all – in places of contact with the face (at night I use acids for the face).

But safeguarding the ends is of utmost importance. Before, even with silicone care, I was ready to cut them almost every day; now, I only cut off the hair loss’s aftereffects. After using the cap every day for 11 months, I only cut the ends once, and that was only because I was unhappy with the way it looked (the effects of severe loss). The ends’ quality was perfect for me.

I overcame the "scissor disease" with the cap’s assistance; now, all that’s left to do is trim off the last vestiges of the aftereffects of hair loss, and you can take pleasure in the thick and lengthy cut.

The second cap made of silk

I received a new, in my opinion, much more practical version of the cap in March of this year. And it’s exactly what was needed because it retains nearly all of the benefits of its predecessor while doing away with its drawbacks.

Because of its larger size, this model is appropriate for people with very long hair that dislikes waves and curled ends.

The silk ribbon on the front, which smoothly transforms into ties, and the weak elastic band on the back are what cause fixation. This solution prevents the cap from being felt at all, the elastic band from squeezing and leaving marks on the forehead, and the cap from slipping off even when I toss and turn a lot at night.

How are we going to survive without kisuns? This cap is one-sided, just like the last one, so I put it on inside out, smooth side facing the hair.

In contrast to the initial model, the pressed curls in this one will become smooth over night, and they will request a refresh in the morning. Then, going with a smaller model makes sense (but without a tight elastic band).

Benefits of the current cap model:

  • ideal for long hair;
  • suitable for those who do not like curled ends;
  • ideal for maximum curl smoothing, in this case no additional. accessories are needed;
  • if the goal is to keep the curl, then you need to put your hair in a "pineapple", and refresh it in the morning;
  • even if you go to bed with damp hair, your hair will not be damaged overnight, and in the morning your hair will lie very well;
  • frizz is minimized;
  • breakage and split ends with this method are minimal, and the ends do not require a haircut for a longer time;
  • the cap is not felt, does not slip, but holds securely until the morning;
  • silk is not very dense, the scalp breathes in it, as a result – the freshness of the root zone is maintained at the usual level;
  • weightless and does not take up space during travel and trips.

Cons:

  • why didn"t I buy it earlier?

My dearest cap arrived to replace the original. A cap is an essential item when traveling, so I expect it to last me a long time and come with me to many locations across the world!

Silk Accessories Sleeping Hairstyles
Silk pillowcase: reduces friction and prevents breakage Braid: helps control frizz, keeps hair in place
Silk cap: locks in moisture, protects hair from tangles "Pineapple": preserves curls, adds volume
Silk elastic band: gentle on hair, avoids creases Hair clip: can cause tension, not ideal for long-term use

The health and appearance of your hair can significantly change if you take care of it at night. Silk accessories are a great option for all hair types because they minimize friction and prevent breakage when used, such as pillowcases, caps, and elastic bands.

A loose braid, "pineapple" style, or a light clip can help hold your hair in place without breaking it if you prefer to tie it up before bed. It’s worthwhile to experiment to determine which technique works best for the texture and length of your hair because each one has advantages.

The ultimate objective is to shield your hair while you sleep, so pick the approach that works best for you in terms of comfort and effectiveness. Over time, regularity with these nighttime routines can result in stronger, healthier hair.
