Frizz management can seem like a never-ending struggle. You’re not alone if you’ve ever felt like your hair has become an uncontrollably fluffy mess after looking in the mirror. Anyone can suffer with frizzy hair, regardless of their hair type or length. It can have a significant effect on how you feel about your appearance and your day, so it’s not just a small annoyance.
The cause of frizz is airborne moisture that causes the hair cuticle to lift and swell. This gives you that awkward, puffed-up look that you can never quite seem to get rid of. If not properly managed, frizzy hair can appear out of nowhere and stay for a long time, regardless of the cause—a sudden storm or just high humidity.
However, there are strategies to combat frizz and get your shiny, silky hair back. Don’t give up. You can make your hair become silky instead of frizzy by using the right products and learning a few essential techniques. We’ll look at useful tips and techniques to combat frizz and maintain the best-looking hair in the upcoming sections.

On my hair, the frieze looks like this:
I’ve been haunted by what you see in the picture on the right to some extent my entire life. Whether my hair is healthy or damaged, bleached, undyed or colored with herbs, straightened or curled, styled in a curly manner or put into a hairstyle, or has split ends or not, one thing always stays the same: His Majesty Frieze.
As a result, I have no trouble finding a picture with a frieze; conversely, it is quite challenging to find pictures without one.
I’m still searching for the response to this query. I told myself some of the reasons, but I’m still not sure about others.
In the fight against frizz, we frequently feel as though we are facing an unbeatable opponent. Regardless of the amount of work we put into our hair care regimen, that annoying frizz always seems to have an other idea and detracts from the polished appearance of every hairstyle. This article explores useful tips and tricks to tame frizz and achieve a smoother, more controlled look. It delves into the challenges of dealing with frizzy hair.
High relative humidity
In a climate that is moderate
The reason behind my hairstyle and photogenic appearance heavily reliant on the weather prediction. Only on days when the humidity level was no more than 70% was my hair permitted to dissolve; the rest of the time, it was cleaned and styled into various bundles and braids, and the inevitable "dandelion" that formed from Baby Hair—still too short to fit into the hairstyle—tried, usually in vain, to calm him using hair varnish, oil shocks, and invisibility. Naturally, there was absolutely no discussion of dates on these days.
For the same reason, summer was my favorite season because it allowed me to walk around with my hair loose like my friends with straight hair. I felt a little jealous of them because they seemed to be immune to the effects of humidity and did not experience hair loss following a swim or bath, an unexpected downpour, or a fog bank encounter.
One glaring example comes from far back in 2015. In each instance, the hair was ironed straight and then covered with an oil-based Loreal leave-in conditioner (hairspray was also used in the right photo to further extend the straightened look). The photo on the right shows 20 minutes outside in cloudy, highly humid weather without any precipitation, while the photo on the left shows dry, sunny weather.
Such a "mane" was obviously far less impressive than the flawlessly smooth canvas of friends with straight hair.
How to fight
Give up on yourself. Use silicone cream or leave-in conditioners with an oil base for straightened hair. Without silicone film, my hair would have become tangled in a matter of minutes. Silicone film prevents the hair from absorbing moisture from the air and keeps it straight. Your hair should be secured in a bun before you go outside. Once you get there, you can loosen your hair and add more silicone leave-in products.
Use the curly method, use livins before applying styling, and don’t skimp on the gel application if you prefer your curls natural. Frizz in a moderate climate significantly decreased after switching to CGM, and even a walk in the rain did not ruin the hairstyle.
Caring for curly hair as for straight hair
All of this makes sense: if you treat curly hair the same way you would straight hair (heavy shampoos, combing, no "curly" styling, etc.), then smooth hair will always be invisible on wavy hair regardless of the products used. However, this rule might not hold true if thermal styling tools aren’t used.
Two months before I found out about the existence of the curly method, I wrote in great detail about how this care method would look on curly hair here. The worst hair looked when I had to wash it while visiting or traveling instead of at home because I had a much smaller supply of standard hair care products.
This is the method of care in both of the photos below. By the way, without the use of thermal devices, this is the temporary maximum that I can achieve for straightening curls. Furthermore, the front strands—which, regrettably, are not visible in the photo from behind—perfectly form spirals without the need for styling.
Before leaving the house on the morning of the second day after washing, both pictures were taken outside without the use of a flash and in natural light. In each instance, the hair was naturally dried in a bun and topped with a silicone leave-in product.
Based on personal experience, I’ve discovered that applying thick, nourishing masks (like Kaaral Maraes, DevaCurl Deep Sea Repair, and Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, which are visible in the above photo taken in August 2019) smooths out my hair and effectively reduces frizz, but also causes the curl to disappear. I had to stop using thick masks because I value curls more than frizz and my hair cannot be considered damaged.
How to fight
Consider the hair’s natural structure first when selecting a care regimen. Curls, no matter how well you take care of them, will not become straight from this; instead, more damage will be done. Conversely, straight hair will not begin to curl as a result of using the curly method on it.
In my opinion, wavy hair has incorporated the best aspects of both kinds, allowing them to choose which path to take. Spirals won’t work even after selecting the "curly" route, but are they really necessary?
Lack of care for damaged hair
any
The hair on the right is shown as having been bleached twice, dyed throughout with household paint once every two to three months, frequently straightened with an iron without using heat protection, and uncolored. They stood out in all directions and pleaded with their owner to pay attention to them in spite of the mass-market care available (apart from the generously gifted Kapous leave-in conditioner with argan oil). As you are aware, their requests were only granted in March of last year.
Since the photo was taken indoors in December 2013, high humidity cannot be the cause of this fluff.
And can you imagine what would happen if neglect was coupled with other factors, like excessive humidity, that also contribute to the formation of frieze? The scene "I fell from the hayloft, slowed down with my head" was ready after just a few minutes in the rain. I am limited to sharing a picture of this shame in the spoiler.
Not for the faint of heart

How to fight
Particularly for damaged hair, care and cautious handling are essential! Some people are fortunate enough to wash their hair only with shampoo, which leaves their hair looking beautiful and healthy. However, there are groups of these folks. Many of those who identify as belonging to this group are also crafty.
Don’t skip any of the exit procedures. Use hydrating, nourishing, and professional-grade masks (each one chooses its own). Timely tinting is required if the hair has been dyed (apply low oxide or herb paints; the latter are preferred). Indelible care, cautious brushing, and t.D. (ideally in accordance with the "spray-cream-butter" scheme). Regretfully, I have just recently come across these principles.
It is preferable to cut the hair if it has been killed. Longevity is never more significant than quality, even though I only realized this last year. In my opinion, well-groomed short hair looks better than kutza killed tips.
Lack of styling or insufficient amount
This is the reason I’ve already stated here:
I committed a sin when I rejected the styling funds at the start of the process. Why? since she was unsure of how to use them. The initial attempt at gel styling was unsuccessful. And it occurred to me: there’s no reason to use styling—and especially gel—in the method at all.
It makes sense that the experiment’s outcome would be suitable. In July of this year, for instance, I skipped the final step of the routine and did not use any styling products or squeeze. This is evident in the photo.
Gel does not create curls if they are not there by nature. It only helps to collect scattered hairs into defined strands and fix them in this position. ️
Naturally, curls without gel weren’t always as ugly. Considering that the gel was applied three days prior, I was taken aback when my hair naturally formed well-defined curls after swimming in the sea without the need to squeeze in styling products.
Nevertheless, the same outcome as applying gel to towel-dried hair (see photo on the left) may occur if you apply the gel insufficiently (see photo on the right):
Both at the beginning of the method, when I was looking for an approach to the gel, and last month (note: this refers to September 2018), when I was looking for a way to combat over-hydration, I made the mistake of applying gel to already towel-dried hair. All I can say is that it was ineffective. It split into tiny strands and became fluffy instead of getting better or the curl becoming more noticeable.
The cost and brand of the gel had no bearing on the outcome. The Mane Choice gel, which costs 700 rubles, or Charm, which costs 100 rubles, both produce the same effect when applied insufficiently or to towel-dried hair: an airy cloud of frieze surrounding the head.
How to fight
It is not desired to skip styling as it determines the final appearance of curls after drying.
I never use a towel to pat dry my hair before applying gel to extremely damp hair right after washing. After that, I let my hair dry naturally for ten minutes under a microfiber turban towel. I’ve temporarily stopped using a hair dryer with a diffuser because it now produces more frizz than when it dries naturally.
Breaking the curl before the hair is completely dry
These days, this issue mostly bothers me if I go outside with damp hair because the wind acts as a natural hair dryer. In this instance, frizz is assured because the gel cannot set the curls in the correct position before the hair is randomly split into strands.
How to deal with it
After letting the hair air dry, gently separate the resulting curl. Try not to touch the hair until it has dried completely.
Sleeping on cotton

January 2018 marked the beginning of my silk pillowcase journey, which predated my conscious hair care regimen. It started out as an artificial silk scarf that I wrapped around my pillow. After sleeping, my hair looked much smoother than usual, even though the fabric wasn’t natural. This effect appealed to me, so six months later I purchased a 100% silk stole. My skin and hair expressed gratitude.
Immediately after moving, I forgot about silk which is not surprising at all, and remembered about it only after 2 weeks, when the amount of frieze began to surprise me very unpleasantly. After the first night on silk, the frieze smoothed out, although it did not disappear completely. Now I do not throw this step out of the routine, especially considering that in such heat as now, silk pleasantly cools the skin during sleep.
How to fight
Sleep on silk to prevent damage to your hair while you slumber.
Natural silk pillowcases are pricey, but you can get good deals on scarves and stoles made of the same material. For instance, I paid 500 rubles for my stole at Berry during a promotion. I have no trouble using it to wrap a pillow.
My pillow looks like this after it has been wrapped in two layers of silk stole (the length allows) Although the silk is transparent and quite thin, it serves all

Even though I think I’ve figured out how to deal with all the other factors, I’m still losing the battle with this one.
Why didn’t I combine it with the high humidity factor and put it separately?
In my opinion, you should start with this factor when creating a care plan since it is fundamental—unless, of course, you move to a different climate zone every month. It greatly influences how this or that product functions.
Here is an illustration for you. As my care was developed and validated by May of this year, I was essentially unaffected by the frieze issue. However, the same care plan stopped functioning as soon as I altered the environment. The amount of "bad hair days" grew several times over prior to May of this year, even after specialty "curly" products were substituted.
Nizhny Novgorod

"Nizhny Novgorod has a mildly continental climate, with a long, chilly winter and a pleasant, brief summer. We can categorize this kind of weather as moderately humid."
My ongoing headache was the frizz issue prior to using the method. Because my hair was sensitive to even the smallest changes in weather, I avoided leaving the house unless absolutely necessary on days when the humidity was high to avoid frightening onlookers with the transformations happening to my hair. But the air was so dry at the start of the heating season that wet towels dried in an hour, and I gave purchasing a humidifier some serious thought.
The method worked wonders for the curls’ appearance, and even in humid weather, the frieze ceased to bother me. I even considered giving up on this issue at this point. It’s too early to celebrate!
Israel
"The weather is Mediterranean. Most precipitation occurs between November and April. Nearly all year round high relative humidity, with the exception of days when the khamsin winds are present."
It becomes apparent from comparing the relative humidity values that Nizhny Novgorod has even higher humidity than Israel. How come it feels precisely the opposite way?
Everything is explained in plain terms. The table displays the average monthly values of air humidity, that is, on days when there is more precipitation (Nizhny Novgorod experiences more) and on days when there is less precipitation (Israel experiences more).
If you are comparing just days with clear, sunny skies, Nizhny Novgorod’s air humidity varies between 50 and 60 percent. And on a clear, sunny day in Israel, the relative humidity is already between 70 and 80 percent. On days when there are no clouds at all, I did not leave the house at all because it was too hard to breathe. It’s also important to note that Israel experiences the majority of these days throughout the year; in the three months I’ve been there, not a single cloudy or precipitation-filled day has occurred.
What does this signify? This implies that when I walk in Israel on a clear day, I experience the same thing that happens when I walk in the rain at home:
A visual explanation of why I left my iron in Russia
My hair does not appear much better, though, even with this technique (especially after walks):
How to fight
Switch nations You can go back to using silicones for hair care. However, as recent experience has demonstrated, the scalp is vehemently opposed to silicones being included in product formulations.
There is therefore only one option left: apply all of the previously discussed strategies for handling frieze and handle the cloud surrounding the head as native Israelis do, i.e., by not giving the issue of frieze any thought.
For those of us with curly or wavy hair, frizz can feel like an ongoing battle. When you work hard on your style, it can be annoying if a few stray strands ruin it. But keep in mind that you are not facing this battle alone. Many people are impacted by frizz, and being aware of its causes and remedies can help greatly.
There are numerous methods for preventing frizz. Small changes can have a big impact, from choosing the correct products to perfecting your haircare regimen. Accept the techniques that suit your hair type the best, and don’t be scared to try different approaches until you figure out what keeps your hair manageable and smooth.
Frizz can always be a part of your hair journey, but it can also be managed by you. You can lessen its effects and enjoy your hair the way you desire with the appropriate strategy. So, face frizz head-on and turn it into a small blip on your journey to gorgeous hair.
