Legendary combs – features of models and their comparison

Posts concerning hair devices are common in our community. Since everyone has favorites, I will naturally make an arbitrary assessment based on the following parameters:

➖️ Eight times out of ten, my daily ritual consists of just combing (without blow-drying or styling), so the perfect comb for me would be one that works well for dry hair.

➖️ The comb is chosen based on the type of hair, and vice versa—what works well for one person may not work well for another. Just to refresh your memory, my hair is thin and straight rather than thick, silky, and fluffy.

Thus, the objective of this comparison battle is to determine which of these well-known combs is best for my particular type of hair and for daily use. The people taking part in the comparison are shown in the picture below:

1.1. Janeke, Superbrush model (full-size)

Cost: starting at 1100₽

Dimensions: 20.3 x 8.5 cm in length and width.

Description: In 1830, the Italians established the Janeke brand. A fascinating fact from the manufacturer is that, we think, 80% of the items are handmade!

Janeke Superbrush is an appropriate blow-drying comb. Round teeth all the same size.

We used my daughter’s hair as a demonstration because I was never able to get decent, educational pictures of my own hair. Although her hair is longer than mine, it is still the same type—thin, straight, low-porosity, soft, and volumeless.

✅️ The teeth have a medium hardness, which makes them gentle on the skin and non-scratching.

✅️ After using leave-in products or styling (wet hair won’t "scratch" styling products), you can comb through damp or wet hair.

✅️ The manufacturer offers a wide array of colors, ranging from understated classics to eye-catching color combos like fuchsia and acid green. 🤪 🤭

I found that this comb was not suitable for drying my hair with a hair dryer or combing it dry because the thin hair would slide out of the widely spaced teeth.

Its teething plane is excessively wide, which is highly uncomfortable for those with thin hair.

Janeke Superbrush was therefore unable to win my heart. There is a Mini version of this model as well; when I held it in the store, it made no difference. It is likely that girls with curly or thick hair will find Janeke Superbrush appealing. Furthermore, Mini is too small, so I do not advise bringing it (unless for a handbag).

1.2. Tangle Teezer, The Medium-Sized Wet Detangler Model

Cost: starting at 1400₽

Dimensions: 21.5 x 6.5 cm in length and width.

Description: Hairdresser Sean Pulfrey established this British company in 2007. Their first iconic product, the "The Original" detangling comb, became cult favorite and was awarded the Queen’s Award! I own "The Original," but let’s move on to my favorite Tangle Teezer model: the Wet Detangler. I own a medium-sized comb (the line also has Mini and Large combs; see below for more information).

Translated literally as "wet detangling," this is called Wet Detangler. In fact, this comb is designated as a wet hair tool. This model features an ergonomic handle and 325 two-level flexible teeth.

✅️ (Thinner and softer than Janeke) teeth

✅️ The handle is incredibly comfy and fits your hand like a glove!

✅️ There is no fragility to the plastic case; it doesn’t break, crack, scratch, or slip from your fingers.

✅️ Dimensions: the comb’s overall dimensions, handle length, and the width of the toothed plane are all perfect.

I will also discuss The Wet Detangler’s drawbacks, although they are mainly "far-fetched":

The teeth become damaged when dried with a hairdryer, so it is totally inappropriate (though there are special models for this)

The teeth of the comb will wrinkle if you store it lying down with the teeth facing down.

I was rude and careless to her when I was her first The Wet Detangler. It is still quite functional in spite of this.

I can’t help but notice that a common topic of conversation is the crunch or crackling sound that happens when combing. Many believe that their hair is being torn by the comb. Naturally, this is untrue, and I can demonstrate it by having you run your finger along the teeth and hear the crackling sound. Indeed. Furthermore, hair is unrelated to it. The source of the "cracking" sound is simply the teeth themselves, which are soft, elastic, thicker at the base and thinner at the ends due to the comb’s design features.

Tangle Teezer My favorite has always been the Wet Detangler! It has the most comfortable handle ever and combs hair both wet and dry flawlessly! It is simple to wash and composed of premium wear-resistant plastic! The Wet Detangler is flawless in my opinion, and it has no comparable products!

1.3. Spider Classic model, "I Love My Hair," in size M

Cost: starting at 1350₽

Dimensions: 21 x 4.6 cm in length and width.

The "I Love My Hair" trademark has been in use in Russia for a brief period of time. It all began with the manufacture of scissors and other professional hairdressing equipment.

The 366 nylon bristles on the Spider Classic model are arranged in bunches. Every bunch has two different-sized bristles with safety balls at the tips.

✅️ Gently and pleasantly massage the scalp with soft nylon bristles and balls.

✅️ The bristles’ length allows them to touch the skin and pierce hair with ease and speed.

✅️ The bristle platform is a narrow rectangle in size and shape—my favorite kind of shape.

Additionally, the line offers a large oval comb called Spider size L, which I find bulky but might be appealing to girls with thick hair. There is Spider in size S, but as a toy, I do not suggest it.

The "ringing" plastic used to make the comb body is not my favorite material; if it is dropped on a tile floor, it could get damaged.(( To be fair, I should mention that the body did not sustain any abrasions or scratches during the procedure.

The Tangle Teezer and the I Love My Hair comb are very different from one another. It has a different plastic body and different bristles. After using various Tangle Teezer models for seven years, I must admit that I assumed this decision would last forever. However, after working for ILMH for a few months, Spider really surprised me! I would really like a comb! Thin hair is carefully and delicately combed with long, dense bristles. And I discovered what a pleasant-feeling comb is for my scalp because of the balls on the tips of the bristles!

1.4. Du-Boa Brush, Ikemoto model

Cost: starting at 1800 ₽

Dimensions: 20.1 x 4.5 cm in length and width.

The oldest Japanese brand is called Ikemoto Brush. The comb features 376 nylon bristles that are grouped together and have massage balls at the ends. a pair of bristles with varying lengths. Brown bristles are found on the edges and white bristles in the center.

✅️ The advantages remain the same as with the earlier ILMH Spider comb.

Also comparable is the minus.)) I also have concerns regarding the body material used here because plastic is prone to abrasions. After only a few days of use, the body already has flaws. How are things going? Considering the comb’s price. It’s unfortunate.

ILMH Spider M and Ikemoto comb Du-Boa are extremely similar. This kind of comb is known as a "spider." Their bodies are made of nylon bristles with balls arranged in a similar pattern, and they are roughly the same size (Ikemoto is slightly shorter). Ikemoto is still a little softer, though; I felt it when I ran it over my skin rather than when I saw it on the canvas.

Stay away from cats! It locates my preferred Ikemoto and chews on the fragile bristles.

To sum up,

Janeke Superbrush is not my choice, though thick hair may find its unique teeth and broad platform appealing. All I have to do with a comb like that is nothing.

Tangle Teezer The Wet Detangler has a great body made of durable material, and its teeth fit me perfectly. It also has the most comfortable handle of any comb. This is the third comb I’ve bought in a row, so I won’t be exchanging it for anything, but I already want to get a new one in a different color.

Ikemoto Du-Boa and ILMH Spider M. You could easily leave one of these two beauties (though, for me, I obviously need both right now). comparable combs. Ikemoto is how I comb my hair, but a stiffer Spider makes it easier to gather the tail.

If you have to choose right now, Ikemoto is the better option if your hair is so damaged that the canvas literally crumbles under your fingers (not with a comb, of course; you need to solve the issue, well, you get the idea). In other situations, you can begin with ILMH (it’s a little less expensive) to determine whether combs of this kind are even appropriate for you.

In light of the findings of my research comparing combs, I have come to the following conclusion: if your hair is straight, thin, smooth, and not thick, get two combs: Tangle Teezer The Wet Detangler and one "spider" comb.

Choosing the correct comb can be the difference between having the ideal hairstyle and not being able to achieve volume, smoothness, or detangling. The ideal comb for your hair type will vary, ranging from modern innovations to time-tested classics like the wide-tooth comb. It all depends on what your hair type requires. This post will discuss several renowned combs and assist you in selecting the ideal item to maintain the best possible appearance for your hair.

My other combs

I have a lot of combs, as I’ve already mentioned. Among them are well-known brands that I found unimpressive, and there are also "no-name" gadgets for three kopecks that are displayed like stars on a bathroom shelf! This is the remainder of my collection (apart from the ones that took part in the "battle"):

2.1. The Teezer family Tangle

I have three more Tangle Teezers from this brand in addition to my cherished green one.

The Original Tangle Teezer

Around 1300₽ in price. It was with this comb that I first became familiar with the Tangle Teezer brand seven years ago. At the time, I was really fond of this comb! I hadn’t become spoiled yet. It is currently in my car and is quite worn out from life; it would be a shame to throw it away. Although it’s a nice, soft comb, I’ve come to realize that I prefer combs with handles.

The Large Wet Detangler, Tangle Teezer

About 1600₽ was the price. It’s blue in the picture. For me, too big. Observe how much larger it is than my medium-sized green comb. I suggest it to those with thick hair!

Dry & Go Tangle Teezer Easy

Around 1400₽ in price. Comb designed for blow-drying with a hair dryer. by the moniker Hedgehog. Its teeth scare me so much that I’m afraid to touch it! I have no idea how individuals use it. It’s possible that I’m missing something. Of course, the comb is a little bit hard, but not very hard, according to all of my relatives. I don’t like it at all, but you have to try it for yourself.

2.2. Hair dryer combs for styling and drying hair

My two helpers. Regarding them, I have no complaints!

Shave, blow dry, and use a skeletal hair comb.

Around 300₽ was the price. Unknown manufacturer. I use a hair dryer to lift the hair roots and dry the canvas.

Just4Hair Comb with a brush to style hair

About 850₽ is the price. Professional 45 mm ceramic thermal brushing. My knowledge of styling is limited to the fact that ceramic materials are less damaging to hair than metal ones. Regular brushing without any doubts. One with a smaller diameter is what I want to purchase next.

Your hair care regimen can significantly change depending on the comb you choose. Whether you’re brushing, detangling, or styling, the ideal comb keeps your hair looking and feeling fantastic.

There is a legendary comb for every need, ranging from wide-tooth combs for curly hair to fine-tooth options for sleek styles. Choose the one that best suits the texture and type of your hair by taking your time.

You’ll experience smoother hair days and feel more assured about your styling technique if you have the correct comb.
