How to care for natural hair

Which guidelines and recommendations do you think are most important for caring for natural hair?

Though there are benefits to having natural hair, there are drawbacks as well. Natural hair has a special sheen, plays and glares in the sun, creates its own distinct shade, and, for the most part, is easier to love the color of your hair when proper care is taken.

My hair has a very fine structure and is Slavic in type. As the length of the hair grows, this type is the most prone to fatigue. If there is no extra protection along the length, I simply do not poke the necessary length of hair, and I prefer to feel at least 70 to 80 cm of my own hair.

I use thickening series of care to make my hair look thicker and heavier. You can find these in almost all price ranges and brands. My Top Brands: CHI and Davines. Must be looked for in the writing Biotin and proteins.

For any kind of hair, you should first establish the foundational needs, select the appropriate at-home care, and then progressively add products to enhance the care that has already been established.

There is a belief that natural hair requires the least amount of maintenance. This isn’t totally accurate, though. Summertime causes hair to actively burn out, approaching bleaching; if the person has thin hair, this increases their vulnerability by double. As a result, summertime care differs slightly and puts more of a focus on UV-filtering makeup, or "sun lines."

To help prevent hair tangling in the summer, I suggest investing in sprays for extra moisture and environmental protection. You should be mindful of nutrition-focused masks during the summer. This will give the hair all the nutrients it needs and help to restore a more saturated color to the strands.

These days, I base my hair care decisions on its needs. The Kerastase Discipline line was bought to eliminate frizz during times of high humidity because it contains keratin and acts as a shield to protect the hair. This line of shampoos is gentler on hair and produces a thinner, less dense foam. Right now, I only have six products under my care. You never know. No, I think this is more than sufficient.

Right now, my whole toolbox looks like this:

  1. Shampoo. Its main purpose is not only cleansing, here you should take into account the type of scalp, special attention should be paid to the sensitivity of the scalp and if there are problems, then you need to choose specialized cosmetics. For myself, I choose different shampoos both with SLS and on a soft base. Hair washing schedule is once every 2-3 days. I like it when it has a lot of foam (this applies to both sulfate and sulfate-free). For me, shampoo is preparation for subsequent care. Here you should already pay attention to your scalp type and proceed from this, there is no one shampoo that is ideal for everyone.
  2. Conditioner. Basic care can be obtained from the conditioner. I prefer conditioners. I have been actively using them for 3 years now and the quality of my hair has not gotten worse, on the contrary, my hair remains light and is not overloaded with excessive care. The holding time, as stated by the manufacturer, is 2-3 minutes in most cases.
  3. Mask. Used as intensive care. At the moment, masks have completely replaced ampoules and fillers for me, now there is no need for deep care at all, I get a similar effect from masks. Many manufacturers recommend creating additional warmth by wrapping your head with a warm towel and leaving the mask for 20 to 30 minutes, before rinsing. It is also better to have several masks with different directions for a specific hair need and alternate them between each other.
  4. Leave-in care (additional care in the form of thermal protection, hair thickening products, smoothing products, hair oils). Since I dry my hair with a hairdryer on an ongoing basis, I decided to purchase thermal protection and thermal protection Kérastase Resistance Ciment Thermique, so far I have mixed feelings about it. I am also a fan of oils from different brands. Currently, in my care, Kérastase Elixir Ultime, it perfectly copes with the function of thermal care.

Current care

Kérastase cosmetics are designed to give hair the salon-quality look at home. That is to say, the outcome is immediate and doesn’t require prolonged exposure; unconsciously, this brand is the focus of all my attention, yet I frequently make this decision.

I like conditioners with multiple uses. You don’t have to be concerned about the hair’s quality, and they don’t require prolonged exposure. One of the key guidelines for natural hair is to avoid going overboard.

About minimalism in cosmetics

Where does the use of cosmetics stop being minimal and the absence of them start?

I tried to stick to the position I took on rational consumption when I wrote a brief post about it earlier. There’s no hard and fast rule here; it all comes down to how this minimalism makes you feel. If unpleasant feelings start to surface, there are probably gaps in the integrated care that need to be addressed.

I now believe that simplicity is the key to a well-organized, unambiguous plan. I monitor the outcome for a few months. I believe that it is impossible to monitor a product’s efficacy and gain an understanding of it in a short amount of time because, in the variety of care we provide, we frequently fail to give the product enough time to fully open up. A lot is dependent on the integrated care plan. It is much simpler to do this with minimalism.

I make an effort to shop responsibly. and to avoid veering too far in either direction. The most crucial thing is to continue providing care in moderation. I make an effort to keep track of sales and, if I can, purchase the item for a discounted price before making a purchase. I try not to make impulsive purchases of the same kind of pointless goods. I’ve made it a habit to live in the now rather than save money for future purchases over the course of the year.

How do you maintain your composure and refrain from buying a ton of makeup?

My inner hamster always needs to be fed, and hair expenses are constant. Unfortunately, hair product stands are my favorites. I find it hard to walk away without purchasing anything, but I resist and only purchase what I absolutely need.

I tried to save money on my hair last year, but the results weren’t the best. From now on, I try to stick to getting professional care. Personally, I think there is a significant difference and differentiation between mass-market and professional.

You eventually come to the conclusion that a new jar won’t transform your hair into something amazing. Prioritizing your genetic data is the first step towards helping yourself reach your goals. These include leading a healthy lifestyle, quitting unhealthy habits, getting enough sleep, and managing stress. Once the fundamental framework for care has been established, purchases are made consciously and with knowledge of what is required.

What kind of maintenance practices help to maintain hair of this exceptional quality?

Proper product selection and maintenance. My guidelines and standards haven’t changed since 2021, in theory. After a vacation, alternate between hair restoration and care, as hair is most vulnerable during this period. This is insignificant; after all, the beach causes many products to stop working properly, hair becomes more tangled and starts to stick out all the way, and the ends get extremely dry and hard. As a result, I try to choose products with a "salon effect" for a speedy recovery when I return from vacation.

Could you please tell us about the hair care products that have been effective for you over the years?

Top products over the years

  1. Davines nounou shampoo for damaged and dry hair. I remember it with warmth over the past time. Definitely a must-have for all times.
  2. Davines NouNou Conditioner contains creatine (it improves the quality of hair), as well as glycerin, which also copes well in climates with high humidity. Hair became thick and smooth. This is a rare case when care gives the effect of color saturation.
  3. Davines OI Oil Absolute Beautifying Potion convenient format for travel and trips, the oil works great on hair, the effect is just wow. Smoothing, density, smoothness – everything I love.
  4. Shampoo-bath Kérastase Resistance Bain Force Architecte. This year"s favorite, creates a lot of foam, perfectly washes hair from the first time.
  5. Hair mask and conditioner from the line ResistanceForce Architecte. Definitely one of the best lines in my care. Quick result, does not overload the hair, while it has smooth and restoring actions.

Following application of Kérastase Resistance Force Architecte mask to hair:

Choosing a comb and hair dryer

Never undervalue the importance of using a professional hair dryer. I’m currently looking for the best option for myself, and the two most important things are organic and user-friendly.

Another essential for care is a comb. Ikoo has been my love for a long time; it has perfect teeth that can both comb and massage the scalp. The company also makes its own hair masks, daily lines, and scalp care products.

Deep care masks that are applied at home as part of a spa treatment come with a hair cap that traps heat and boosts the mask’s efficacy. I occasionally purchase these masks and use them for at-home spa treatments; they smell really nice and work well.

Hair accessories

Select the appropriate hair accessories so as to avoid damaging hair.

There are many different types of accessories available today, and any consumer’s taste can be satisfied with one of them. Personally, I go for minimalist solutions because they effortlessly blend into my daily wardrobe. I’ve recently developed a strong affection for hair crabs because they’re not only lovely but also practical.

Haircut with hot scissors

What are the benefits and drawbacks of hot scissors based on your own experience?

I’ve been a frequent client of this salon for the past two years; of course, the main reason I go is for the hot scissors.

For instance, the master uses hot scissors from the Jaguar The Carecut brand in the salon where I visit; these scissors range in price from 1700 to 2000 €. Certain salons cannot afford them.

You should focus on the tool’s quality first and foremost. The second is deciding which of the several methods to use: using the flagellum technique, you can remove all split ends from the length of the hair; trimming the length of the hair; or using hot scissors to cut the length in an even cut based on the shape. I like to use hot scissors only to trim the ends of the hair; I do not like to cut the entire length of the hair.

The primary distinction is that using hot scissors to cut makes the hair seal and keeps it from splitting. In addition to rejuvenating the ends of the hair, a regular haircut splits the hair’s scales and exposes its internal structures. And after one to one and a half months, the hair ends split.

Basic recommendations for cutting with hot scissors

  1. To achieve maximum results, cutting with hot scissors should be done several times in a row. Over the course of two years, I used this service 4 times. The first time the break between haircuts was 6 months, instead of the planned 3 months, the next time I kept an interval of 3 months. Well, then I went a year without a haircut, and updated the cut.
  2. Regular use of hot scissors. The first time, you should repeat the procedure after 2-3 months. The effect of the haircut itself is achieved after 2-3 procedures.
  3. Reduce the use of thermal devices. I neglect this rule and use a hair dryer after each wash. And sometimes I curl my hair with a conical curling iron.

Which well-known pieces of advice have you found to be ineffective in your experience?

  • Using dry shampoo instead of washing your hair

Who doesn’t know about the fabled Batiste shampoo, after all? Although I am aware that some people adore dry shampoo, I found this product to be absolutely unsatisfactory. There was discomfort all day long. And if this is a noteworthy occasion? My days were never good when I used dry shampoo because my hair always got in the way and washing it was the easiest fix.

This fear, along with the myth that some unknown person created, led me to purchase pseudo-organic products. I did not use silicones in my hair care for a number of years, and my hair did not get healthier as a result. I now regularly use "silicone" hair paste, and I’ve finally grown my ideal 80 cm of hair.

  • Do not comb wet hair

Here, it’s important to observe how thoroughly the hair is combed. I like to comb through my wet hair. When my hair is already dry, I comb it, and it gets really electric and doesn’t look the way I want it to. Additionally, when I apply leave-in care correctly before drying my hair, my curls become more obedient and smooth.

  • Using a hair mask on a regular basis

This is where you can make a big mistake by giving your hair too much attention. Hair masks are meant to be "therapeutic care," meant to help with more effective tasks like brittleness elimination. To get the desired result, you must use it in a course, and you must unquestionably take a break.

It is best to use a hair mask occasionally but not excessively. Sending in one or two applications every week is a good solution. As a result, using a hair mask occasionally can be beneficial.

I used to use hair masks religiously, and the stronger the mask, the more frequently I used it. I was convinced that if I didn’t use masks, my hair would become brittle because they wouldn’t give it enough attention. I experienced delivery issues and hair mask shortages during the pandemic. My hair did not become worse after using only conditioner consistently; on the contrary, it became lighter and gained more volume.

The secret of beautiful shots

You share many beautiful pictures in your postings. What are some ways to improve as a photographer?

Like most of my posts, all of my photos were taken using a phone. My friend is the phone. It’s a pleasure to work with the new editor now that it’s so convenient and allows you to see how the post will look overall visually.

Primarily, I am drawn to soft natural light, so I try to take pictures during the day. I dislike taking pictures inside because the light cannot be adjusted to be more natural yet more saturated. Nature, then, makes the ideal "background" for photographs in my opinion.

For me, there’s only one crucial rule: I have to snap pictures of new jars as soon as I can. If I wait, I won’t be inspired to write a post. It takes a lot of time to write a post, but it goes much more quickly when one is inspired. Above all, summer and everything associated with summer care inspire me to write posts. Right now, the majority of posts are consistently bright and "delicious."

Important events, motivation and sources of inspiration

You made your community debut in the spring of 2016. What significant occurrences did you observe during this period?

For me, this is the time when I began to actively study information on growing hair. At that time, it was a revelation to me that there was a whole site dedicated to the love of hair. Several times during this time, I wore medium-length hair, but as a result, in 2019, I already had the hair of my dreams, which pleased me with its quality. There were no drastic changes with my hair, there were other areas of life that all my attention was directed to. I can say that the topic of project pan served as a return to the site, and in general the topic of decluttering and storing cosmetics.

Would you kindly tell us about the hair care accomplishments that inspire you?

Running marathons is an excellent source of motivation because it combines excitement with well-defined care; laziness is no longer an option. I enjoy reading lengthy posts because they rekindle my passion for hair and, if any, help me focus on any current hair care issues you may be having. This is always, in my opinion, a strong and proactive message about hair care.

I also frequently notice other girls’ hair; I like it when it’s well-groomed and attractive, and I want to take the entire picture into consideration because it takes a lot of work to keep hair looking this nice.

What activities do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy traveling and going to museums and art exhibits in my free time. I feel energized and charged after doing this for the entire workweek. I also make an effort to watch sports, and during the summer I like to go on long walks or runs in parks. All of its thoughts return to normal as it relaxes. Fall and winter are my favorite seasons to visit the pool and read books.
