I ruined my hair with my laziness! My plan for restoring the quality and beauty of my hair. Features of hair care in winter

Everyone has experienced the feeling of being too indolent to adhere to their usual hair care regimen, only to discover afterwards how much harm has been done. This indolence resulted in dry, brittle, and lifeless hair for me. I’m now committed to repairing the harm and bringing back the health and beauty of my hair.

It gets harder to take care of your hair as the chilly winter months draw near. Your hair can suffer greatly from dry indoor heat and harsh winds, becoming frizzy and dehydrated. I’m making a plan this season to fix the damage and shield my hair from the harsh winter weather.

I’ll go over the procedures I’m using to repair my hair, the products I’ve been adding to my regimen, and the particular adjustments I’m making to take care of my hair in the winter in this post. Let’s restore our hair to its gorgeous and luxurious state!

Analysis of my mistakes

Very dry air

Good frosts have hit Moscow since the end of December and have persisted for nearly a full month. The air is extremely dry outside, and it is even drier inside; even though the radiators started blazing in November, they are currently running at full capacity. It also so happened that the air at work in the new office is unbearably hot and stuffy (the windows don’t open, the ventilation works, drying the air to critical values), and at home it’s extremely dry (I used to put bowls of water around the room and put a wet towel on the radiator at night).

I bought a humidifier for my house in February of last year, but I never bothered to turn it on, much less remember to bring towels. As a result, dry skin and hair quickly became apparent.

How can this issue be resolved? First off, did you know that if you do not disinfect your humidifier, unwelcome tenants will quickly move in? I have already removed, cleaned, and disinfected mine. and moved it into the bedroom. From now on, I’ll turn it on every night during the workweek and leave it running at a low power for the entire weekend.

What should be done about dryness at work, secondly? I purchased a tiny pink humidifier and installed it in my office. However, the room is large; will this matter? Since I sit there for eight hours a day at work, how do other girls handle similar situations? I’ll watch the comments for your wise counsel!

Crooked cut

I felt compelled to visit my old master’s hairdresser in June. It is beyond me what transpired that day with her, but the cut was utterly repulsive. However, as everyone knows, the smoother the cut, the better it grows and the longer it will stay in ideal shape. The ripped ends continue to grow and shatter.

I also felt that her scissors’ blades were not sharp enough because I am again brittle and have split ends that used to be long gone. Furthermore, take a look at how awful the side bleached strands appear; I find it impossible to look at them without crying. Not even toning products can turn things around. And the whole length is mercilessly dried out with the Estel toning mask.

What sort of resolution is possible in this situation? Cutting it all off is the right thing to do. Additionally, as the play goes on, I have to alter my plans even though I had intended to get a haircut in May. I schedule an appointment at the salon where I had an excellent haircut a year ago; yes, I am a risk-taker and I picked the hairstylist based on reviews.

I was correct, too! The haircut looks fantastic! As anticipated, severing the frayed ends resolved the majority of my issue. The cut is now even and lovely because I asked the hairstylist to trim 5 cm off. And even though the effects of all my steps are already visible here, it feels as though life has been breathed into the length.

Lack of keratin

I concluded after reviewing my care over the years that I have always used keratin-containing products. And once every two weeks, I really enjoyed it, even though I don’t like to use it for daily care because it leaves my skin feeling very stiff and dry. Even so, natural hair inevitably sustains damage over time, and little structural repair won’t harm it.

I currently only have one leave-in product, DSD de Luxe 4.5, and it has a significant amount of keratin in it. And once every two weeks, I intend to incorporate this into my routine.

Poor sleep

How come? Not getting enough sleep? What impact does this have, if any?

I refer to friction-induced hair damage while you sleep. To be completely honest, I can’t stand doing my hair in a bun at night; I can fall asleep wearing it that way after a long day of walking. Naturally, I wake up with a tangle on my head that includes brittle ends and aching roots from a hairpin. Alternatively, washing my hair and going to bed is my second favorite routine. Without even mentioning it, wet hair is extremely delicate in this situation, and a silk pillowcase will not protect it from harm.

For me, this is the hardest point. For me, getting enough sleep has always been a challenge. I’ll make a few points here to address the issue.

  1. Dry your hair before bed. Since on weekdays I wash my hair in the evening, there are no other options – you need to dry your hair with a hairdryer before bed, no matter how lazy you are.
  2. Sleep exclusively on a silk pillowcase. I have two of them – one is very high quality, and the second is from a Chinese site. I believe that you can find good things there, but my pillowcase is not one of them. And although I bought it from a local brand and there were a lot of reviews, I was not impressed by this pillowcase and in general I have some doubts about whether it is real silk. 🤔
  3. Buy a piece of silk in a fabric store and sew a towel in which I would put my hair at night. One pillowcase is not enough for me, because my hair is long and one way or another by the middle of the night it ends up crumpled under my back. I have already tried to put my hair in a turban, and it turned out to be an unsuccessful experience, which I shared in this post. It seems to me that for me and my length, the format of a large towel would be convenient, but I have not yet been able to find one on sale. But this takes time, in the fabric store near my home there was only one option of extremely low-quality silk and a terrible color.

Not enough attention to the bleached strands

Oh, these bleached strands that suffer for so long. They did, of course, help me realize that I’m not a total blonde, but I will enjoy all the joys of empty hair until they grow back completely. I hoped the hairstylist would trim off those same lighter side strands to join my grown-out bangs with the main length when I went to get my hair cut.

The hairdresser, however, shook her head and delivered a depressing assessment: it will look awful because the bangs are still too short and the length is too long to connect them. I had to put my trust in an expert. She thinks I should wait at least a year to grow my bangs before I can blend the ladder into my overall hairstyle. This implies that I will have to endure lightning for an additional year.

Why is this such a problem for me? Perhaps from the first photo you will already understand the answer yourself – these strands are terribly thin, porous, literally cobweb-like. They constantly get tangled, electrified, get into knots, which I can’t always comb and have to help myself with scissors. Naturally, I know that such empty hair needs to be filled with pigment and I use a toning mask. And that"s where the rat crept in. In the spring, based on reviews on the Internet, I bought the Estel Newtone mask, which really does a good job of filling the hair with pigment, slightly thickening it and lasting for several weeks.

However! It just turns my hair into straw and dries it horribly. Once dry, use an actual broom rather than ends. Naturally, you’ll wonder, "Nastya, why didn’t you buy new masks and throw this one away?" And all due to my foolish frugalness. Let the work begin; the money has been paid. And if, during the summer and fall, this dryness disappeared with the subsequent wash, the system stopped functioning and started to dry out even more when the heating was turned on.

The easiest fix is to discard the Estel mask, even though there isn’t much left in the tube because the hamster consumed the entire can. However, I only need to use toning products until I stop bleaching, and from this point on, I will choose softer products with respect to color while being mindful of length. I’m going to use a Wella Color Fresh mask for now. That’s exactly it—a gentle tint that removes easily but doesn’t dry out over time.

Using schemes that are not suitable for winter

We can infer from past errors that my hair was already experiencing a lot of drying out at the start of winter. I neglected to give them my full attention and made no changes to my care. In addition, I began experimenting with deep cleaning and using my hero Hydra less frequently.

I made the decision to only use L’Oréal Volumetry shampoo during the New Year’s holiday, right at the height of the frost, for some reason, in order to guarantee that I would always have gorgeous volume. Naturally, there was volume, but it also caused my scalp to become incredibly dry and covered in dry seborrhea, which peeled off and fell outside the window like snow. I wanted to try something different, so I used anything other than Hydra, which when combined with green ampoules, can remove any Sahara from my hair. This shampoo also dried out the length nicely for me.

It’s time to reevaluate my care. I started by pulling mild sulfate-free shampoo samples out of the bins. My scalp exhaled a sigh of relief after using Time to Grow, and I knew it was time to switch to gentler shampoos. I added Hair Vital with argan oil to my care regimen and purchased Sim Sensitive for dry scalp because of this. My scalp is gradually getting back to normal, and nothing is falling out of it. I’ll wait until it gets warmer before using L’Oreal.

Of course, all I have to do is use the Kaaral Hydra mask and Restructure ampoules once a week, or until the heating is turned off. Don’t do any more trials!

No daily combing

Again, you will say – Nastya, what are you talking about, don"t you comb your hair?? And I will answer – oh, yes, I can go a whole week without combing my hair. And here the problem is complex. Well, it is clear that sometimes I am just lazy, sometimes I have no time. In the evenings, I wash my hair and go to bed wet. In the morning I wake up and run to work, at work I make a bun, and in the evening I get lazy again and forget about it. And so day after day. But I also realized that I just don’t have a comb that I would enjoy using.

I used to have 4 combs – two Teasers, a Wet brush and a Janeke. I bought Janeke two years ago and at first I fell in love with it, but now the love has passed. It seems to me that it is not the best representative for detangling wet or dry hair, but it is convenient to dry the length with a hairdryer. It is not very convenient for me to use the Teaser, because it does not have a handle, this is also my recent discovery. Although it is the coolest of all in terms of functionality. My two oldest combs are the Wet brush, which is 7 years old and the classic Teaser, which, attention, is 15 years old! The bristles of both of them have already failed, they are impossible to use and so I am saying goodbye to them.

I was wondering which brush to use to get it to detangle, be attractive, and have a handle. I had to decide between ILoveMyHair, Wet Brush, and Tangle Teezer. Abruptly, though, I recalled the hairstylist’s brand of professional accessories, where I was hoping to purchase a skeleton comb to accentuate my roots.

And now I’m already perusing the Framar brand of brushes, reading glowing evaluations, appreciating their beauty, and making a purchase decision. This brush had me completely enthralled. It had a wonderful hue known as noble purple and a surface texture that I’m not sure is technically called "velvet," but it feels somewhat textured rather than smooth to the touch. Its ergonomic shape and long, thin bristles are also features. Although I’m still testing it, it seems to work flawlessly to detangle wet hair; however, I haven’t tried it on dry hair yet. However, I can now reach for the comb with my hand and don’t miss the nightly ritual.

My current care

I’ll now briefly go over the precautions and strategies I want to employ up until the heating is turned off.

Cleansing

As I previously mentioned, I switched to a softer cleansing method. I’ll alternate the two and assess my scalp’s condition.

  • Shampoo Sim Sensitive 2 Balancing for dry scalp I already had it a couple of years ago and it satisfied my scalp 100%. This is a great soft sulfate.
  • Shampoo Hair Vital Argan Nectar my new product, I am just getting to know it.

Masks and conditioners

  • Conditioner Selective OnCare Daily – my favorite at the moment, it perfectly moisturizes, thickens, hair after it is elastic and whippy.
  • Conditioner Desert Essence Italian Red Grape – my sweet remnant from the era of the green site. I adore it for its sweet grape aroma, unrivaled smoothing, thickening and moisturizing.
  • Mask Wella Color Fresh Lilac Frost – light toning with a little care. Does not dry my hair, and I do not require more.
  • Mask Hair Vital Argan Nectar – my new product, but I have already managed to appreciate its cool detangling and smoothing properties. I will test more.
  • Mask Lakme Teknia Organic Balance – this mask is also my favorite. It smells great of the forest, bright woody notes make it stand out from all the floral and fruity madness. It thickens, nourishes and moisturizes – a real multifunctional. While I am still planning to write a separate post, it will already run out, there are only a couple of uses left.

Leave-in products

There is diversity in my leave-in care as well.

  • Spray Selective OnCare Daily – a very cool light moisturizing and detangling spray. I now use it either in a sandwich before oil or on the second or third day to make combing easier. I really like using it and you can not regret it, because the bottle contains as much as 275 ml.
  • The same oil L’Oréal Absolute Repair, which made me reconsider my attitude to the whole brand. I really like its lightness and velvety feel. Does not weigh down, smoothes and protects the ends. There is even a separate post.
  • Cream L’Oréal Metal Detox for me remains a strong average. It seems to be great – it smoothes and moisturizes, but there is no special delight, so my hand rarely reaches out.
  • Cream Evo Head Mistress is my veeeery long-standing desire and I am very grateful to Kristina AlekseevaKO for the opportunity to try it. This cream is unusual, in my opinion it is intended for use under a hairdryer, preferably with subsequent styling, since the hair after it is hard, textured, voluminous. I imagine it in action before styling curls with a brush. I don’t do this, but sometimes you can indulge in a cream, of course, I will not buy a full size.

Even with my grown-out bangs, I still meticulously style them because I prefer the way they frame my face. Not a dejected snot, but a full curl. I have one old, slightly worn-out R&Co Park Ave. here. However, it still performs its duties flawlessly: it adds volume, texture, and density while shielding hair from the heat of a hair dryer.

Day off

I usually give my hair a spa treatment on the weekends, so this care is always done separately.

Everything is essentially explained: for normal scalp, cleanse with Sim Sensitive 3, a slightly stronger shampoo; next, apply ampoules of Kaaral Restructure; finally, apply Kaaral Hydra. For thirty to an hour, walk while wearing this combination. Every week, I will switch between two leave-in products: a keratin bomb 4.5 from DSD de Luxe or a thick cream R&Co Cool Wind, which I can use to dry my hair naturally or with cold air from a hair dryer. And a salve for the bangs, too.

I will look at the condition of my hair and scalp, and if something does not go according to plan, then I will probably buy some additional products. Although this is undesirable, because I am still on my Project Pen, which you can read about in more detail in my previous post. I am considering two shampoos for sensitive scalp – Vichy and Ducray. I have already used both and I know for sure that they suit me. I also really want to order a set of crabs from the Framar brand, but I can’t decide which color scheme to choose – neutral or colored. What do you think, which ones do you like more?

Problem Solution
Dry, damaged hair from neglect Use moisturizing shampoos and conditioners regularly
Split ends Trim the ends every 6-8 weeks
Frizzy hair during winter Apply hair oils or serums for extra hydration
Breakage from lack of care Minimize heat styling and use a heat protectant
Weak hair from poor diet Incorporate more vitamins and nutrients in your meals
Lack of hydration in cold weather Wear a hat or scarf to protect your hair from the cold

Although maintaining your hair requires constant work, there is always time to make improvements. The first step in healing from neglect is realizing the harm it has done, and establishing a healthy routine is essential to preserving the health of your hair.

Because of the severe weather, hair typically requires more attention during the winter. Regular trims, moisturizing products, and defense against cold air are all vital. A well-rounded regimen combined with nourishing treatments will gradually enhance your hair’s appearance and texture.

What matters most is sticking to your hair care regimen. Your hair will regain its strength and shine if you are patient and consistent. Recall that maintaining your hair’s quality and beauty depends greatly on your lifestyle choices.

My hair is now dry and damaged as a result of skipping my hair care regimen, especially in the chilly winter months. I’ve devised a basic regimen centered on moisturizing treatments, routine hair cuts, and shielding my hair from the cold in order to restore its quality and beauty. Winter calls for extra care with hydration, nourishing oils and masks, and a maximum avoidance of heat styling. I’m sure I can revive my hair if I give it regular care.
