Straightening hair that is porous can be difficult. It can be challenging to achieve that sleek, polished look without damaging it because of its propensity to frizz and puff up.
When trying to tame their hair, many people with this type of hair find it difficult to maintain the health of their strands. When hair is done incorrectly, it can look like a haystack—dry, brittle, and unmanageable.
Fortunately, there are safe and effective methods for straightening porous hair. You can maintain your hair’s softness and health while getting the sleek look you desire with the appropriate techniques and care regimens.

Keratin straightening
I would like to start by recalling an experiment that was conducted 1.5 years ago, which involved keratin straightening. Additionally, I want to attach a collage right away:
You can only image how happy someone would be to not have to style their hair: with just a quick blowout with a hairdryer, they were ready to go. However, two significant drawbacks negated all of keratin straightening’s benefits:
- My hair completely lost volume. It simply wasn’t there
- My hair got dirty incredibly quickly. After just a couple of hours, my hair looked like icicles.
How to achieve smoothness without salon procedures
And now for the real question: how can I now achieve an even surface without using a flat iron, a hair dryer with a brushing attachment, or salon procedures? It was actually this combination that gave my hair its final look two years ago. I will state up front that this is very challenging for people who have curly or wavy hair. However, that just adds to how fascinating it is!
In theory, we require the following:
- Rinse-off care should be more aimed at restoration. Hair needs to be weighed down in a good sense (by nourishing it).
- It is necessary to fill the pores of the hair, masking their porous structure. Ceramides, proteins, hyaluronic acid – all these are our friends in this difficult task
- It is better to use creamy leave-in products, as they additionally thicken the hair.
- Oil leave-in products are also suitable, especially those aimed at smoothness.
- You will still have to use brushing. It will be safer to use a special comb
Ikoo Paddle X, for example although Kerastase Ultime almost worked. So we choose a brush for brushing and start styling
Shampoo
Without hesitation, I would say that the Kaaral Maraes nourishing mask is the most controversial product I have tried. Its impact is completely unforeseen. However, in contrast to its mask counterpart, Kaaral Maraes shampoo is incredibly nourishing, easily comprehensible, and attractive in any situation.
This azure mother-of-pearl is so velvety and smells so good it will drive you crazy. This shampoo is incredibly affordable—a liter costs about 2000 rubles in different online stores—foams nicely, cleanses gently, and leaves hair flowing after just one use. It’s still scary, but this is the only shampoo I would take a chance on without taking extra care afterward. This shampoo might overfeed thin, healthy hair, but my porous hair is happy to have such a treat!
Mask + concentrate
What a Kaaral Maraes, this! Leaves nobody uninterested! Some people see this mask as a lifesaver, a perfect thickener, or even love! And for others, the product is worthless. Although I haven’t made up my mind yet, I can say with certainty that the Matrix with Ceramides concentrate works incredibly well. I get the required density of porous hair from this pair plus the shampoo mentioned above. Plus a wonderful scent
How I use this sandwich
- First, I gently squeeze my hair with a towel and let it dry a little.
- First, I apply the concentrate.
- Second, I apply a thick layer of the mask directly on top of the concentrate.
- Wrap my hair with cling film.
- Put a cap on top.
- I walk like this for half an hour to an hour, depending on the amount of free time, then rinse everything off for a long time, thoroughly, under a stream of water with a strong pressure.
This process is something I try to do two or three times a month.
Leave-in cream
My leave-in cream, Constant DELIGHT 12in1 Hair Elixir, is reasonably priced and highly well-liked. The cream is a good one; it does not weigh down or stain the hair at all, and it looks thicker and cleaner after using it. There are also fewer breakages. I’ll probably go for the full size.
Oil leave-in cream
My hair has to have a sandwich, and you can hardly overdo it. Thus, the last step is something I adore the most: oil for all hair types. Ultime Kerastase Elixir
It gives the most gorgeous golden highlights (and even more so on the bleached part of the hair), flawlessly smooths out sticking out hair, and smooths the hair as if it were polished throughout. I won’t even get started on the stylish glass bottle’s design or the alluring, sweet oriental scent. I use the oil on both wet and dry hair, and I’m never able to go overboard with the requirements.
Drying with a hairdryer
I don’t use any attachments when I dry my hair; my hairdryer is very basic. My brushing comb gets a lot more attention from me. I happened to buy it at the closest Alpari a year ago, and I have never regretted it. Its teeth are fine and soft; they comb hair nicely without causing rips or tears. The comb does not slide through the thickness of the hair at all when styling, and its size allows you to work through the process quickly.
I lift my hair from the roots up and comb through it from top to bottom to dry it. Since uneven straightening does not significantly affect the visual, I dry the upper strands before moving on to the lower ones. My hair hasn’t gotten any worse since I started doing this more than a year ago. However, I get smoothness, volume, and shine.
Although straightening porous hair can be difficult, it is possible to achieve sleek, silky results without harming the hair if you take the proper approach. It’s important to use the right products, like hydrating serums and heat protectants, to keep hair healthy while straightening.
Selecting the appropriate tools is also crucial; one such tool is a premium flat iron with temperature adjustments. Steer clear of using too much heat as this can cause breakage and dryness, leaving hair looking frizzy.
You can have straight, gorgeous locks free of the bothersome haystack effect by following a good hair care regimen and exercising caution when handling your porous hair.
Use the right tools and good preparation to straighten porous hair without making it into a haystack. To prevent damage, start by using a heat protectant. Then, use a flat iron with temperature settings that you can adjust to prevent burning your hair. For a smooth, polished finish, always work in small sections and use a smoothing serum or oil to seal in moisture. Frizz and maintain smoothness in hair by keeping it hydrated and healthy.
