Dye or henna
Henna and dye are the two tried-and-true methods for getting copper-colored hair. Both situations have subtle differences: henna does not give dark hair a bright red color and quickly turns dark with repeated use; dye (particularly household dye, which includes a standard 9% oxidizer) is easily removed and damages the hair cuticle.
Red with dye
Since there are fewer posts about dye on our site than about henna, I put this point first to ensure that no one would have read to the dye section.
The simplest way to achieve the desired shade of red is to use dye. All you have to do is select the color you want from the palette. It might be necessary to do preliminary lightening if there is a substantial discrepancy between the intended and natural UGT.
personal experience
During the entire 3.5-year period of "redness", I only dyed my hair professionally three times.paint in the salon, but I can"t say what brand they dyed it with and what oxide. The rest of the time, I was saved by household paints of the brands Garnier Color Naturals "7.40 Captivating Copper" and L"Oreal Preference "74 Mango". My natural UGT is at level 5-6, and with the help of paint I was able to get level 7-8 without any problems.My main mistake was touching the length with each coloring. The color on damaged hair did not last at all, after two washes the color noticeably faded (to the level of lightening). In my naivety, I believed that the only way to get brightness over the entire canvas would be the decision to dye the entire length each time. When I noticed that my hair was getting worse after coloring, I decided to dye it less often, leaving my hair without toning for 2-3 months. In this case, before coloring, the hair was the color of a pale yellow chicken.That in order to maintain brightness it is not at all necessary to dye the length every time, it is enough to maintain the brightness of the color with tint products (for example., the same Tonica "7.35 Golden Nut", I found out too late. Of course, there was no care at that time, my hair was completely destroyed, and keratin straightening finished it off – the ends broke off by 5-7 cm. At the same time, I came to the decision that red does not go with my dark skin, and decided to grow my own color. This is where the "red" part of my hair history ended.

But there are problems with the paint:
In short order, the color becomes dull. This is a result of the red dye’s molecules being notably larger than those of other shades, which prevents them from penetrating deeply into the hair and properly fixing there. The quicker the shade fades, the more damage the hair sustains.
"I sit with copper for 40 minutes; this is the ideal duration for the red molecule to be copper-copper for an extended period of time."

Solution: Applying tinting agents on time helps keep the color’s brightness at the appropriate level.
Even when using a low oxide dye, the paint still causes damage to the hair. If selecting the appropriate oxidizer percentage for professional dyes can be done on one’s own, what about home paints, where the manufacturer ensures maximum oxidation for dependability?
The same as when dyeing in any other color, the solution here is to re-dye only the roots and use tint products to tint the length. The focus of care is restoration.
Professional dyes
The best choice to get the desired copper color. The difference between the intended and original UGT is used to choose the oxidizer (the larger the difference, the higher the oxide).

Red with henna
And naturally, henna is the most widely used method of getting red (as seen by the sheer volume of posts on the subject). Henna gives hair amazing shine by smoothing the cuticle, strengthening and thickening the hair. After henna, the color appears incredibly natural, complex, "live," with lots of highlights, and it varies significantly with the lighting.
Henna, however, has disadvantages:
- it does not lighten hair, so bright red can only be achieved on a light base;
- henna darkens as pigment accumulates, so when the desired shade is reached, only the roots are dyed, occasionally dyeing the entire length;
- the color immediately after dyeing is not final, you should not rely on it. The final fixation of the lawson in the hair is completed on the 2-3 day after dyeing;
- the tanning effect of henna without proper care leads to the fact that after several masks with henna, the hair becomes dry and stiff. Therefore, for adherents of henna dyeing, it is so important to focus on moisturizing in care.

Henna with colorant
With extreme caution, I would use this option to achieve a copper color. First, there is a significant chance of experiencing an allergic reaction because the ingredients list for these products does not specify which material is used as a colorant. Second, the outcome might be unexpected if you try to alter the color with lightning. As a result, always consider the henna’s composition before purchasing.

Whether you go for a synthetic or natural dye, dying your hair red can be an exciting way to change the way you look. One option is to use henna. Both techniques are charming in their own right and can produce gorgeous red or fiery copper tones. Paint offers a greater range of colors, from deep auburn to bright scarlet, while henna produces a more earthy and natural red.
It can be difficult to maintain a red shade because red pigments fade more quickly than other colors. It’s crucial to use color-safe shampoos, limit heat styling, and refrain from frequent washing if you want your color to stay vibrant. Frequent gloss treatments or touch-ups can also help your red hair stay vibrant for longer.
For many, having red hair is more than just a fashion statement. Some spend a great deal of time and energy selecting the ideal shade and maintaining its vibrancy. These "hair maniacs," or redheads, adore the boldness and individuality that come with having red hair, and their insights are a wonderful resource for anyone thinking about making the switch.
