From a bob to shoulder-length in 1 year! How I kept a thick and even cut and grew long hair without scissors

It can seem like a lengthy process to grow out a bob into shoulder-length hair, particularly if you want to maintain your hair’s thickness and consistency throughout. Many believe that the only way to keep a healthy appearance and prevent split ends is to get regular trims. But you don’t have to reach for the scissors all the time to get gorgeous results.

I’ll talk about my own experience growing my hair from a short bob to shoulder length in just one year in this post. I concentrated on protecting my hair from harm, maintaining its thickness without cutting it, and maintaining its health throughout the procedure.

This article has a lot of helpful advice if you’re looking for suggestions on how to grow your hair while maintaining its fullness and consistency. My experience demonstrates that you can have longer hair without compromising its quality or needing to wait years to see results.

Month Haircare Routine
Month 1-3 Focus on deep conditioning treatments to strengthen the hair and prevent breakage.
Month 4-6 Trim split ends sparingly, use leave-in conditioners, and massage scalp for better growth.
Month 7-9 Switch to sulfate-free shampoos, reduce heat styling, and continue regular scalp massages.
Month 10-12 Maintain moisture balance with hair oils, avoid tight hairstyles, and nourish hair with a healthy diet.

A little background

I was so depressed after cutting my hair all the way to my neck. After all, I sat on a chair with my hair tucked into my pants in the summer of 2017. I was depressed for about two weeks, but then I accepted that I had a bob and carried on with my life.

I thus survived until spring without giving hair a second thought. I used only my husband’s shampoo for personal care. After all, little to no maintenance is needed for short, natural hair. However, in March, I signed up for an account on our website and spent a month browsing the long hair of girls there to my heart’s content. I became aware that I. I wish to have my long hair again. After a year-long marathon, I make the decision to grow my hair out once more. In addition, I won’t be getting a haircut until December 2018 because I haven’t had one since December 2017.

I’ll state up front that I’m thrilled with my hair as it is right now.I’ve never had better hair than this one. My own natural hair has never been below the shoulders in good health. They were always dyed—re-dyed a hundred times, and if I allowed my natural color to develop, I would dye them once more, up to my chin. And the circle goes on.

Goals achieved

2018 has turned out to be one of my hair’s best years yet, and I was able to accomplish the following during this time:

I stopped experiencing severe hair loss on my own, even though I had been breastfeeding for a long time. I also maintained a thick and even haircut for the ends of my hair, preventing splitting, brittleness, dryness, and thinning. My hair grew quite long, reaching my shoulder blades.

I’ll go into detail in this post about how I completed these tasks and even include before and after pictures of my hair. This is my year-end summary for the blog.

Beginning of the story

How my hair changed over the year

Thick (girth 14 cm; I believe this isn’t because of the quantity of hair but rather its excellent thickness) Compact Non-porous Natural

Let’s go back to exactly a year ago, and this is what we have now: Hair five to six months after giving birth: this is the remnant of my thick head of hair now that postpartum hair loss has finally subsided. Most likely, this is a fourth.

I did not use any kind of hair growth stimulant from December to April, and my hair grew about 1 cm per month. I have been attempting to accelerate the growth in every way I can since April. And it grows by 1.5 to 2 cm every month.

What I had as of December 2018 is listed here.

For comparison December 2025 – December 2025

Let’s now discuss three objectives that I have been accomplishing this year.

How I dealt with severe hair loss

My hair started falling out again exactly a year after I gave birth. Not only was my hair falling out, but my teeth were too. I realized right away that long-term breastfeeding was the cause. The body was just exhausted and cries out for forgiveness. Like postpartum hair loss, I initially gave this little thought and hoped it would go away on its own. But I made the decision to track how much hair I lose in a single wash in early August. In the restroom, there were over 300 hairs. Saying that I was taken aback would be a copout.

What I did

Accepted the problem, that it really exists, it does not seem to me and I am not exaggerating. Remembered all my recipes for masks to combat hair loss. I found motivation. Why is this necessary? At times when nothing helped, and it seemed that my hair was falling out even more, I wanted to spit on everything and give up – to surrender. At this difficult moment, my photo of my hair from 4 years ago helped me. Looking at it, I understood that I could achieve both the former thickness and the former length. And if I stop doing masks now, I will lose even more thickness and will not get my hair back. Looking at this photo, I went and did the mask again.

The two months later, the hair loss stopped. After washing, there were only 20–30 hairs left in the bathroom by the end of September, as opposed to 300.

What helped me

1. Peacefulness. I stopped worrying when I washed my hair because those kinds of situations exacerbate hair loss. I saw a lot of short hair on my head and that’s when this happened. The knowledge that I would not stay bald in any case helped me to relax.

2. Burdock oil and one egg combined into a mask

My top choice for a hair loss mask is this one. I’ve been doing it for a long time, and it has frequently stopped my hair loss. It once again saved me this time. Burdock oil is best taken with pepper, but you can use regular oil if you have any at home.

3. Esvicin

Every two to three days, I would rub it in at night and then wash my hair in the morning. I used up the full bottle of this product at that exact moment when I realized my hair was no longer falling out.

4. Garlic series "Russian field" hair mask-balm.

Applied it for the full two months that I fought hair loss. Because it burns, growth is stimulated. As the jar was coming to an end, I was still losing hair, but I was also reassured that I would not become bald because I had little, short hairs all over my head. In other words, rather than stopping hair loss, the product caused new, healthy undercoats to grow in place of the old ones.

Fighting hair loss is not a new experience for me. I’ve dealt with this on multiple occasions, and I always handle the issue myself. I’ve never gone to hairdressers, trichologists, or other medical professionals. In general, I don’t trust strangers with my hair. I think my hair is the issue, and I’ll take care of it on my own. Nobody is going to look after them the way I do.

Yes, and yes. I am not willing to spend thousands of rubles on hair loss ampoules since I am not sure if they will be helpful or not, but I apply a regular egg calmly because I know it will be beneficial.

How I kept a thick and even cut

This year, I haven’t had a haircut. Actually, in the vein of "I will not get a haircut for a year" or two or three, I did not plan it or give myself a schedule. I never act in this way. I’m willing to trim off as much hair as needed if necessary, but this year there was no need for it because my hair does not break, split, or thin out. I’m going to cut my hair if this happens. I’ll probably trim it in the late winter or early spring.

My ends appear like this a year after my most recent haircut:

My rules for maintaining the quality of the length of hair

Refrain from washing every day. Generally speaking, this is bad for hair, and especially for long hair, where the hair just gets thinner. particularly if the shampoo contains sulfates and the water is hard. Usually on the third day, I wash my hair.

2. Avoid using a hairdryer to dry the length of your hair. I have only dried my hair ten times this year; I haven’t even touched the length of my hair. However, hot air will still get on your hair when you dry it upside down, so we always apply silicone oil at the end to prevent this. We don’t purposefully use a hairdryer to dry the entirety of your hair!

3. Avoid combing damp hair. Even with various Tangle Teasers, this is still harmful. I never use a comb on my hair and I never run my fingers through it until it is completely dry.

4. Only use a curling iron (or a straightening iron if you have curly hair) on holidays. There are no thermal devices in daily life. Only on noteworthy events, when you must appear more festive. I have only used a curling iron once this year, on New Year’s Eve of last year.

5. Don’t bother with hair coloring if the structure forbids it. At least not while the length is being grown. Although my hair is medium in thickness, I am aware that bleaching it will require frequent cutting of the ends.

6. In the winter, tuck your hair under your clothes; in the summer, wear a hat. Before now, I didn’t abide by this rule. I was unaware of the damage to my hair, and I was indifferent. Three to four years ago, I walked like this, and I was stupid.

I no longer take my hair out at all and I never do this.

7. After shampooing, we always apply a silicone leave-in oil to the ends of our hair. Whichever brand you choose, they are all nearly identical. whoever you desire. Silicones don’t have to scare you. They’re not biting! They provide decent protection against breakage and damage for hair of that length. including the conclusion.

8. Natural oils for the duration prior to cleaning. To be honest, I have no idea why so many people dislike hair oils. Only in the rare event that you recently dyed your hair with paint free of ammonia can oils be harmful. All they’ll do is rinse it out of your hair. Oils are your best friends when it comes to keeping your hair long in all other situations. I have created oil wraps using the following oils this year:

Coconut, almond, flaxseed, castor, and olive

In case you are not familiar with oil masks, let’s introduce ourselves by applying the light-to-heavy principle. Try using light oils at first so your hair won’t become weighed down. Almond, coconut, and olive are these. Stay with them if they give your hair good nourishment. Proceed to the heavy artillery if your hair is still dry and there’s not enough nutrition. These are raw forms of burdock, castor, and flaxseed. All oils are safe to use on hair of any length, with the following exceptions:

Burdock oil and peppercorns Mustard grease

There’s no need to apply these oils to the entire length as they tend to dry out on the scalp.

9. I only have my hair cut in compliance with the guidelines. As previously stated, my boundaries when it comes to haircuts are hazy. I hesitated to cut it even though I wanted to. I pick a day to trim it if I notice that silicones can no longer hide split ends or if I’m just sick of the ends—this has also happened to me.

My hair is only cut by my mother or my aunt. I don’t trust strangers in particular to handle this job.

My hair was chopped using standard office scissors. They don’t really harm my hair, as you can see by looking at it.

I get my hair cut only on the days that coincide with the waxing moon and the money haircut. I believe that everyone is aware of what a waxing moon is. I only advise waxing instead of getting a haircut during a full moon because I tried it once and didn’t like how my hair looked after.

A money haircut: what is it? I agree with the sign; if you get a haircut on that date, things will get better financially. I look at the two dates online, combine them into one, and request a hair cut for that day.

As you can see, these are very basic hair care guidelines. You have probably heard or known them all a hundred and fifty times already. Despite this, many girls continue to disobey these guidelines and then naively wonder why their hair breaks, thins out, or splits at the ends.

It takes patience and wise care to grow hair from a bob to shoulder length in a year while keeping thickness and a uniform cut. You don’t need to visit the hairdresser frequently to maintain strong, healthy hair if you concentrate on using nourishing products, handling your hair gently, and refraining from unwanted haircuts. This method helps keep your ends safe from harm so that your hair can continue to grow longer and appear fuller.

How I grew long hair from a bob to shoulder blade level in 1 year

The picture shows that my hair has probably grown exactly twice. I want to clarify up front that I did not take any specific hair-related vitamins. For now, they are not recommended for me. I also don’t follow a healthy diet. In other words, I won’t discuss internal growth acceleration. I just don’t possess it.

I only speed up hair growth on the outside.

What helped me in accelerating hair growth this year

1. A mask made of mustard As is common knowledge, I completed one course in April and May in accordance with the traditional recipe. Next year, I’ll do it again.

2. Compliment Naturalis 3-in-1 Hair Mask with Pepper

I used this mask once a year in June or July. Although the mask effectively speeds up growth, I don’t feel like buying it again for some reason. That’s all I did—I tried it.

3. Hair mask and balm The "Russian field" series red pepper

In terms of hair growth, the mask has grown in popularity this year. I completed three courses and used three jars annually, from November to the present, in April and May, and in June and July.

4. Burdock oil and peppercorns Mirrolla

It also demonstrated excellent results in both preventing hair loss and speeding up the growth of new hair. This year, I took at least two courses. between April and May as well as from November to the present.

5. Melt mask-balm to promote Indica hair growth

I made full use of it in October. The pepper in the mixture helps the mask burn well.

I didn’t use anything out of the ordinary to speed up hair growth, as you can see. Most of the products are probably already well known to you, and many hair maniacs have tried them all before. I used tried-and-true accelerators instead of inventing the wheel.

It was a satisfying journey for me to grow my hair from a bob to shoulder length in just a year. Patience and consistency in hair care were essential. I was able to maintain strong, healthy hair by choosing nourishing products, avoiding heat, and adhering to a regular regimen of moisturizing.

Keeping the urge to trim it too often at bay was one of the biggest challenges. Rather, I concentrated on treating my ends frequently to keep them healthy and shunned any activities that might lead to breakage. I was able to keep my cut thick and even without compromising length with this method.

Maintaining protective approaches and gentle handling also had a significant impact. My experience demonstrates that, even in the absence of frequent trims, it is possible to grow long hair and maintain its thickness and health. With the correct maintenance, anyone can meet their hair goals on schedule.
