In terms of hair fashion, 2021 was a year of big changes and inventive expression. People made statements with their hair by embracing their natural textures and experimenting with bold colors. Everybody was encouraged to venture outside of their comfort zones and experiment with new looks, with a focus on personal style.
Blond curls that flowed freely made a dramatic reappearance, exuding a timeless elegance and carefree beauty. These classic waves inspired a lot of people and brought a little refinement to daily life. However, the henno-basman bob, a modern take on the traditional bob, brought a fusion of edgy and sophisticated styles that attracted attention everywhere it went.
These hairstyles encouraged people to try different looks and discover what best suits them by showcasing the beauty of diversity in hairstyles. The year demonstrated that hair can be a potent medium for self-expression, whether opting for the sophisticated allure of a henno-basman bob or the soft glamour of blond curls.

WINTER☃️
Specifically, January and February. My hair is in good condition at this time, in my opinion. Though I still aim for a length of about waist length, they are already fairly long. Postpartum hair loss has already reduced the density, but because of the curls, it still appears like there is a lot of hair. A great deal of new hair grows in all directions but is already attempting to gather into a ponytail.
Let’s say you have winter hair, your home is heated, and you haven’t purchased a humidifier. In this scenario, dry hair is the main issue. Ampoules and moisturizing masks are used to get rid of it. Exactly when I need them, Hask products containing agave extract and hemp oil, along with custard Alaffia, show up. They work wonders in battling dryness.
The first image shows how styling with these products looks. It really appeals to me. Elastic and shiny hair.
SPRING
Now that spring has arrived, it’s time for the spring marathon, which I participate in of course.
I have relatively healthy hair at the beginning, with few split ends. Although my hair loss is within normal bounds, I would like to accelerate my growth in order to attain my ideal hair length.
The second objective is to raise the quality because, although they are minor, there are split ends.
To hasten growth, I employed:
- a homemade tonic with copper tripeptide, which at first gave a 2 cm increase in 2 weeks, and then did not give any increase;
- an oil infusion that my scalp did not like;
- a homemade fenugreek spray that helped reduce hair loss;
- a mask with Compliment pepper and herbs.
The ends started to scream for a haircut, the split ends got bigger, and the quality of the hair did not get any better. To be fair, though, it’s important to note that the dryness in the hair disappeared (even with herbal masks) as soon as the warm weather arrived and the heating was turned off.
The worst part, though, is that the hair’s ends started to show gaps. This was the first bell 🛎 I will soon have to put off my dreams of having long hair. However, as of right now, my hair seems fine, and hope dies last, so I’ll keep growing it out.

SUMMER🦋
Spring has given way to summer. It’s time to unwind. My summer was packed with significant occasions, so I didn’t have time to check my hair thickness or snap back-facing photos. I also didn’t want to become angry again. I kept up my regular hair care regimen, but I didn’t encourage growth.
The images show how the spaces in the middle are getting increasingly noticeable. I’m having more and more thoughts about getting a haircut. However, the issue of split ends becomes less noticeable.
And I make the decision to get a haircut as soon as all the significant occasions are over. However, it proves to be a failure🤦♀️ The overall length of the cut has not changed, but the shape has, with the ends growing even more sparse. Things have gotten worse, and things are about to change.
AUTUMN
It’s officially fall. Ostap then became overly enthusiastic.
However, I’ll begin at the beginning.
Herbal coloring is something I’ve been considering for a while. My hair is naturally light brown with a hint of golden color in the sun; the rest of the time, it’s the "mouse gray" that most people find unappealing. I like it in theory, but I really wanted to bring some color into our otherwise drab daily lives. That’s the reason I chose to experiment with henna coloring—but not in its purest form; instead, I mixed it with other herbs to make a non-coloring mixture. My goal was to give my natural shade a little more warmth.
I applied the mixture to a test strand first because I was terrified I would turn bright red. After it took on a faint copper hue, I dyed my whole head of hair. The outcome, which you can see in the final two gallery images, pleased me. However, my natural color almost entirely returned in just two weeks. In addition, there is a 1:3 ratio between coloring and non-coloring herbs.
Since then, I’ve started doing henna toning masks once every two weeks. After applying "Soap Nut" henna, I used Bustan Budur. The first one had a nice consistency and fine grinding, which I liked, and the second one had twig inclusions and a coarser grind but produced a more saturated brown-copper shade.
To lessen the henna’s brightness, I’ve started adding basma to the tinting mixture for the roots. However, the basma is unwilling to adhere to my hair. It is up to me to determine the cause. I use "Soap Nuts" brand basma.
I was taking pictures of my hair a lot because I was planning a post about Ice Curly products at the same time as I was coloring my hair with herbs. Typically, the curls came out shiny, defined, and frizz-free. However, all the beauty was ruined by the thin ends. The pictures portray a better situation than it actually is. Everybody tries to share the best photos.
The lower third of the hair’s density significantly decreased as a result of the protracted hair loss. Thankfully, fresh hair appeared to replace the hair that had vanished from my head. Many of them reached the length below the chin at that time. Additionally, there was a noticeable decrease in density, which I found to be quite unpleasant. In addition, I was ready mentally for a drastic haircut and I wanted a change. My husband was forced to cut it after I gave him some scissors. He started to get a few gray hairs after that. And after the haircut, this is the remaining portion of my length.
Yes, it is a little short, but I have no regrets about it. Although they don’t have the same beauty as long curls, they have several benefits:
- The density along the length of the hair almost evened out, the ends became denser;
- Additional volume appeared;
- The drying time for the hair decreased, which is very important in cold weather;
- The hair became more unpretentious due to its short length;
- The consumption of hair products decreased, but this was not a problem;
- The thirst for change was quenched🙃.
The initial haircut took place at the close of October, while the second one took place at the close of December. Because the hair there curls weaker and appears longer, the shape has slightly changed in this instance, with the strands closest to the face being shortened.
This is how my hair looks right now.
The curls have grown a little bit already, but it looks like the Ice Curly gel and foam are to blame for this. It’s even more appealing to me.
COMPARATIVE COLLAGE FOR 2025.
I’ll display hair photos from various times in 2021 as a collage to make things more clear.
In summary, I had long, healthy hair that eventually started to thin out from hair loss (good thing new hair grew in), so I had to get a haircut and start growing it back.
Regretfully, the story is not uncommon at all. What matters most is to persevere and keep working toward your objective.
However, this collage compares the before and after.
The only noticeable differences, in my opinion, are the hair’s slightly altered length and shade, and the hair appears thick and healthy in these pictures.
2022 is the year. Not the race for length, but rather the health of my scalp and the normalization of hair loss, will be my primary objectives.
