Having tangled hair can be excruciating and difficult to handle. Not always is it as easy as forgetting to use conditioner or to brush frequently.
Tangling can occur when your hair is overfed with products. Although nourishing and moisturizing products are necessary, using too much of them can weigh down the hair and result in knots.
It might be time to reevaluate your hair care regimen if you’re still having trouble with tangles despite your best efforts. Achieving the ideal ratio of products to techniques can help maintain your hair silky and free of knots.

What is overfeeding of hair
Hair overfeeding refers to "overfeeding" done with caution. I will attempt to clarify this word as much as I can, but it is hard to describe with a few clicks of the fingers because many people are still unfamiliar with it. Everybody has at some point in their daily lives experienced overfeeding. when you devour something so delicious that you are unable to stop, like a cake. After eating it all to the point of dehydration, you have a strong desire to quench your thirst. When there is not enough lightness, this is overload. With hair, the same thing takes place.
Why does overfeeding occur
From an excessive amount of care. Numerous people claim that oils can be re-chanted, but I have never experienced this. No, of course, there were a few occasions when I neglected to thoroughly wash the oil out of my hair, leaving it looking something like this.
However, this issue was resolved after washing with regular shampoo. In all the time I have consistently used oils twice a week, I have never experienced true overnutrition.
I therefore link the overnutrition phenomenon to the function of silicones in cosmetic products. Layered silicones eventually start to overburden the hair, which results in that exact overnutrition. The structure of the hair also affects overnutrition; damaged porous hair that is "greedy" for care is less likely to experience overnutrition than thin hair with minimal care requirements.
How to understand that hair is overnutrition
- Hair loses its friability and lightness. If the hair used to flow, but suddenly stopped doing so.
- Begin to get lost in separate strands, if they did not do so before. Form so-called "icicles" instead of tips.
- Become dull.
- If your hair has suddenly lost its shine and become matte, started to form icicles and looks dirty after washing, having lost its former freshness and friability – this is overdrying.
- Also, if you observe one of the listed signs – this is also overdrying.
What to do about it
To give your hair a thorough cleaning, use a shampoo.
My all-time favorite shampoo is Belita Deep Cleansing. It is incredibly efficient and reasonably priced at the same time. It thoroughly cleans hair, removing any trace of silicones and styling products while leaving it frizz-free and pliable. The fact that it doesn’t dry out the hair is crucial to me. This is crucial for hair that has been damaged.
The best course of action is to use ampoule care or wash your hair with it before applying the strongest mask.
Your hair’s capacity to sense care will be "renewed" in this way, eliminating any evidence of overfeeding and restoring its original brightness and freshness.
Is excessive pigmentation bad?
Indeed. The layering of silicones is the primary cause of damage, resulting in brittle hair. As dull hair loses its natural elasticity, it becomes more brittle and more prone to breaking.
How to prevent this hair condition
Even in the absence of silicones in your regimen, you should consistently use a deep cleansing shampoo if you use silicone products and your hair is extremely thin and prone to over-pigmentation. The number of uses per month is determined by the user and ranges from one to three.
One tip I can give you, and one I use frequently myself, is to curl your hair if the structure of your hair is causing the strands to become tangled instead of over-pigmentation. I’ve previously written here about a secure method for creating lovely curls.
However, putting the hair up in pigtails takes even less time. Thus, friability gives thin hair instant volume and prevents it from becoming tangled in strands. My go-to hairstyle is this one.
In this instance as well, choose nourishing products with lighter textures and a small amount of oil content over ones that are heavily concentrated in the composition. Prioritize staying hydrated, but remember that hair requires nourishment as well (and in case of damage, restoration).
Using too many products to overfeed your hair can result in annoying knots and tangles that are hard to manage and style. Start by using less makeup and choose for more nourishing, lighter options to address this. Use a wide-tooth comb to regularly detangle your hair, and think about using clarifying shampoos to get rid of buildup. Maintaining good hair health habits will help you avoid future tangling and make managing your hair easier.
It’s critical to evaluate your hair care regimen if your hair is prone to tangling. Using too many products on your hair can result in knots and irritation. Using the appropriate quantity of conditioner and other treatments can simplify your routine and have a significant impact.
When detangling, exercise caution and try working through knots with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb. Your hair will stay smooth and manageable if you get regular trims and follow a good hair care routine.
Recall that when it comes to hair care, less is frequently more. You can avoid tangles and maintain the greatest possible appearance for your hair by striking the right balance.
