In addition to his striking appearance, Andrej Pejic has captivated the public with his incredible journey of self-realization and development. Pejic’s narrative, which was once hailed as a male model with an androgynous appeal, is a potent example of perseverance and self-reinvention. It’s amazing and thought-provoking to see how he went from being a promising male model to becoming one of the most well-known transgender celebrities in fashion.
Pejic was well-known for questioning traditional notions of beauty early in his career. Early pictures of him show a model who stands out in the fashion industry thanks to a special combination of masculine and feminine features. His success in both men’s and women’s fashion shows can be attributed to a particular, almost ethereal quality that is highlighted in these photos.
Presently, Pejic—now going by Andreja Pejić—keeps pushing the boundaries of beauty norms. Her post-transition images document a deep journey toward self-acceptance and authenticity in addition to a physical metamorphosis. Her transformation over time tells a deeper story about accepting oneself and demonstrating that true beauty is about confidence and self-love rather than just outward appearance.
Andreja’s narrative provides a powerful illustration of how self-reinvention can encourage people to accept who they are. Pejić’s journey, from her early days as a model to her current position as a trailblazer in the fashion industry, serves as a potent reminder of the value of authenticity and the bravery required to live one’s truth.

Andrej Pejic: biography
On August 28, 1991, Andrej Pejic was born in the tiny town of Tuzla (SFR Bosnia and Herzegovina). He moved to Melbourne, Australia, with his family when he was eight years old. Mom was a lawyer and was of Serbian nationality; her father was a Croatian economist. A grandfather and a brother are also present.
When he was younger, Andrey enjoyed posing in front of the mirror in his mother’s clothes and wished to pursue a career in ballet.
Andrey had to conceal his unconventional tendencies from his peers at school in Melbourne, as the traditional Australian culture would not have welcomed him. His classmates teased him about being a woman, and during the graduation ceremony, they gave him the prom queen crown.
He experienced genuine pain and psychological discomfort due to the internal duality brought on by gender dysphoria. Compared to boys, he felt more like a girl.
Those in his immediate vicinity encouraged him to pursue a career in modeling. He had a great chance, with his attractive appearance, delicate features, and slender figure. He forwarded multiple pictures to CMA, Australia’s biggest modeling agency (Chadwick Modeling Agency). This audacious move proved to be crucial as it introduced him to the captivating realm of beauty and fashion.
The fashion industry gained a versatile face that is unlike any other. Andrey is very attractive, boldly seductive, unexpectedly feminine, with perfect figure proportions. He is blonde and has gray-blue eyes. He stands 1 meter 88 centimeters tall and weighs only 57 kg. He also enjoys wearing heels. His shoe size is 44 and his clothing size is 36L (European).
At thirteen, Andrey discovered on the Internet that there was only one chance available to him: gender reassignment surgery. He started taking hormones to prevent the changes that come with entering puberty.
His mother, grandmother, and brother, Andrey, are shown in the picture on the left, all supported his choice. They decided at a family council that once he finished school, he would change his gender. However, the plans needed to be modified. He received an invitation to become a model from the international fashion agency Chadwick Model Management’s Melbourne office.
Andrey started experimenting with himself as a transgender model after experiencing unexpected success.
What had suddenly become his greatest asset and a competitive advantage over other models was what had caused him years and years of suffering. Andrey made up his mind: this is a great opportunity to achieve stability and financial independence. He was not going to give up on his dream, even though he had to put it off for a while.

Modeling business
Andrej Pejic’s appearance on the catwalk, both before and after surgery, startled and shocked people. When he was seventeen years old, he started modeling. He was very feminine, went to modeling school, and made his runway debut at Sydney Fashion Week in 2009.
The young man moved to Paris when he was 19. His career took off there at an astonishing rate. Renowned fashion designers Marc Jacobs and Jean Paul Gaultier enthusiastically attended to him as an honor.
Until now, Andrej Pejic was the only man to advertise underwear. In 2011, he made an appearance on the catwalk wearing a push-up bra from the well-known Danish brand Hema. Hema’s representative clarified that this was the perfect chance to show off the benefits of ultra-voluminous bras on a flat chest (size zero) without making the model feel uncomfortable.
Newspapers stated that this is a standing thing if a man can look so good in a bra.
A remarkable triumph was the 2011 Bulletic Dress demonstration at the Jean Paul Gauthier Wedding Fashion shows in Barcelona. Subsequently, there were innumerable defiles, pictures featured on the initial covers of glossy magazines, and involvement in multiple advertising campaigns.
Andrei was given a tea party invitation by Queen Elizabeth II, where he showed up in a skirt. In 2011, the iconic.COM was created based on the rating of 50 male models on the Models website.
The primary turning points in Andrei Pezhich’s career were:
Year | Job |
2008 | Model Agency Chardwick Model Management (Melbournsky branch) |
2010 | Storm Models agency (London), contracts in Milan, Paris |
2013 | Work on the video clip with David Bowie, in the series “Fatikh. Conqueror ”(Türkiye) |
The model acknowledged that his androgynous appearance gives him an advantage over other models. Both as a charming girl and as a handsome, sophisticated boy, he is in high demand. Andrey observed that female models perceive him as a formidable rival and are envious of his success.
His primary advantages are his femininity, lack of tendency toward obesity, and incapacity to conceive and give birth. He says that for him, it’s just a means of making money, but he also piques viewers’ long-lasting interest. The biggest obstacle in his life, in his opinion, has been his ability to successfully market his androgyny.
Andrey attempted to wear a unisex look off the catwalk. Simple shirts, jeans, rough shoes, muted colors—mostly black and white. He barely applied makeup since he didn’t want to appear transgender, which is not who he is. Because of his naturally feminine appearance and lack of need for plastic surgery or makeup, he preferred the term "androgyne."
This article examines the life-changing experience of Andrej Pejic, who rose to fame for his exquisite fashion sense both before and after having sex reassignment surgery. We explore how his changing appearance mirrors his personal development and the larger story of gender identity by comparing his older and more recent images. By telling this tale, we hope to shed light on his style and public persona shifts as well as the deeper meaning of his reinvention in the context of acceptance and self-discovery.
Scandalous facts
Before and after the surgery, scandalous chronicles have frequently featured Andrej Pejic. In the summer of 2011, he ranked 98th out of the 100 most beautiful women in the world, according to the English entertainment magazine FHM (picture on the right).
He was unintentionally included in the online voting on this publication’s website. Readers overwhelmingly supported him.
When the editors realized what had happened, they decided to stop publishing the magazine in print. The website featured an apology from the editors regarding the typo.
The editors were critical of Andrej in it, referring to him as "it" (thing). The representatives of Pejic were deeply hurt and offended by this.
The magazine’s editors later expressed regret to him. Andrej responded to what had happened coolly and sardonically. He just questioned once more: was it really only in 98th place?
He claimed that his primary advantage is that people are drawn to anything that deviates from the norm. He disobeys gender norms and incites the ire and excitement of a society that is used to the stereotypical view of a man. Even though many of the other models have girlfriends, he claimed that they still make out with him behind the scenes.
He finds genetic experiments to be entertaining. He plays with it rather than fights.
The second controversy, which surfaced in May 2011, involved two of the biggest bookselling chains in America (Borders and Barnes & Noble), who declined to carry the publication (Dossier). The cover featured a startling picture (left).
They insisted that the magazine’s publisher, who printed it, alter the cover. They said that this boy’s nude torso could easily pass for a young, nude girl. In response, Skye Parrott, the magazine’s founder, said that by featuring such a powerful androgynous model on the cover, they were precisely hoping for this outcome. Following this scandal, the publication’s circulation multiplied several times over.

Personal life before and after surgery
Andrej Pejic felt as though his insides were being divided before he had his sex change surgery. He even thought of himself as gay for a while before realizing he was just different. Andrej also thinks that the gender and sexual orientation debate is far more nuanced than it first appears to be, both before and after the surgery.
He claims that love knows no bounds and that he has no overt sexual preferences. He is equally fond of men and women. Although he has accepted his ambiguity, he still feels alone in this world of preconceptions and conventions. Additionally, he acknowledged that he only values sex when he is feeling something.
The relationship with Rembrandt Durand, the primary creative visionary of the Adeen accessory brand, started in the summer of 2012. They appeared together at parties and social events, shared a ton of photos together, and met on the set of a women’s swimsuit commercial.
This couple appears to be a typical, attractive heterosexual couple. In 2013, details of Andrei’s marriage to Rembrandt surfaced; a marriage certificate was even made public by the media. Later on, its falsity was exposed.
Following the surgery that altered his gender identity, Andrea takes great care to keep the constant stream of paparazzi out of her personal space. Her engagement ring-sporting photo appeared in New York publications in 2016. Andrea acknowledged that she met a man with whom she hopes to start a family and has aspirations of having children.
A turning point in life, gender change
Before and after the surgery, Andrei Pejic’s sensual beauty astounded men and made women sigh with jealousy. Proper, defined facial features, captivating gray eyes, a full, sensual mouth, and long, blond curls that excite and stir you. Despite having fantasized about it since he was a young child, he did not find it easy to change his gender. He would rather not be defined by his gender.
He started to appreciate how he embodied both masculine and feminine values.
He gladly posed nude for a Brazilian magazine in 2013, preferring the image of a woman, and the publication released a picture of his attractive, toned body.
The young man thought that having the surgery would spare him the terrible fate of being the odd man out among "normal" people. He was sick of other people showing an unhealthy amount of interest in him. Although his work defied gender norms, he yearned to live in harmony with his physical appearance and be accepted for who he is in society.
He said the changes only had an impact on his physiology. Internally, he has not changed; his personality has not changed. Since he is now both internally and externally a single whole—he is now she, a woman—he refers to this as development, evolution, and discovering inner harmony rather than reincarnation.
Andrea Pejic is her name now, and she just got a new passport. She revealed the procedure that was done in January 2014. surgery for gender reassignment, July 2014. The actual gender reassignment surgery is a challenging, drawn-out, multi-stage procedure.
Numerous procedures take place before the surgery:
- Psychiatric examination — necessary to confirm the person’s absolute confidence in the decision made, the absence of a mental disorder, homosexuality. A diagnosis of transsexualism must be made. The person undergoes complex testing.
- Socio-psychological adaptation. The person must be observed by a psychiatrist for at least a year, learn to feel like a representative of the opposite sex.
- Hormonal therapy that reduces testosterone levels. Take female sex hormones (estrogens) to form mammary glands and get rid of excess hair, typical of men.
- Removal of the male genital organ and formation of the female vagina. After the operation, the patient retains erogenous sensitivity, is able to experience orgasm.
- Multiple plastic surgeries to make the face more feminine, reduce the Adam"s apple, change the timbre of the voice.
- Obtaining new documents.
All of this was necessary for Andrey, with the exception of facial plastic surgery. He called the procedure the "cherry on top" of the challenging journey towards realizing his dream, having persevered through everything without second-guessing his choice for even a moment.
Now going by Andrea, she feels obligated to share her story with the world and holds herself socially accountable for the transparency with which this matter is being discussed. In an interview with "People," she stated that this will help remove the painful secrecy from it and shield transgender boys and girls from many tragedies.
