Regular coloring works because the oxidizer’s acidic environment and the dye’s alkaline environment work together to create a normal alkaline reaction that opens the hair cuticle and releases the pigment within.

The acidic pH of the shampoo interferes with the alkaline reaction in a color bath, making the environment more acidic and reducing the amount of pigment that penetrates the interior. It turns out that the pigment is fixed on the hair’s surface rather than entering the hair.
