The first chance came from a pixie cut, which completely removed the henna and made it easy to bleach out the orange pigment. IroIro seemed to be the most vibrant, saturated, and best dye in my opinion.

About the dye

On the official website, I paid 1375 rubles in 2020 for a 236 ml bottle of purple dye. IroIro is currently priced at 1325 rubles for a smaller volume of 118 ml and 1975 rubles for a large format.

The dyeing process, the result and impressions

The hair measured around 12 centimeters at that time. Orange direct-acting pigments were used to dye the remaining length after the natural roots grew to a height of 4 cm. Surprisingly, using bleaching powder on 3% oxide, the color from the latter was easily removed. I also used Tonika in the shade Amethyst to counteract the yellowness. The damaged length turned pink due to re-bleaching, while the roots took on a white tint. I chose to dye the remaining length purple and take a step back from the ash roots because I really liked them.

We did not dilute the pigment with balm; instead, we applied it pure. The creamy IroIro was absorbed by porous hair like a sponge; the dye did not slide or cause application issues. Because the dye is stretchable, we observed a very economical consumption.

The outcome was a very deep shade of blue.

Yes, the coloring came out quite interesting, with a focus on the white roots, but I had hoped for a deeper purple tone. There are no parallels when comparing the color to what is said. It might have been worthwhile to compare the color with the packaging; this would have made a huge difference.

People would often compliment me on my hairstyle, drawing comparisons between me and Hades from the animated series "Hercules."

Not at all did the color fade. After a month, it remained vivid and rich, but with a hint of purple. I made every effort to get rid of it from my hair, including oil wraps, color-saving shampoos, and restorative masks.

I eventually grew tired of the blue-violet hue and made the drastic decision to get rid of it using bleaching powder. We used 3% oxide to dilute the powder at a 1:3 ratio. I was shocked to see that IroIro had completely disappeared from my hair, leaving no trace of blue or purple.

After six months, I wanted to go back to purple — dye my hair completely. At that time, my hair was at level 10, monthly tinted with ammonia dyes to ash blonde.

About the brand

A new brand of direct-acting pigments has entered the market: Unitones. The colors of all Unitones dyes closely resemble those of natural anthocyanins. China-made.

About the dye

Only a few professional hair dye internet retailers sell unitones. I paid 600 rubles, or wholesale, for the dye. These days, the cost varies from 900 to 1600 rubles.

It gives the strands an excellent tone without unwanted effects.

Unitones composition

Notably, the contents of the bottle and the manufacturer’s website differ. Unitones includes propylene glycol, hydrogenated castor oil, and cetearyl, a fatty alcohol, according to the bottle’s composition. The composition from the Unitones website includes dimethicone, collagen, proteins, and simple denatured alcohol, which can dry out skin and hair.

I sent an email to the brand, but I haven’t heard back yet. If I hear back, I will undoubtedly leave it in the comments.

Unitones can be made more transparent by diluting it with water because of its liquid gel base. The dye has a very strong scent, which reminds me of the times when my mother used store-bought hair color and the apartment smelled strongly of ammonia mixed with nail salon scents. Upon arriving at my town’s sole hair salon, I noticed an unpleasant odor as well. It’s strange, but not unpleasant.

Now let’s examine the swatches: Amethyst is a more translucent purple-blue, while Violet Space is a dense, rich purple that transitions into pink.

The coloring process, the result and impressions

We began coloring the roots after bleaching them with 3% oxide. I colored the first one using Unitones in the Violet Space shade. The dye does not run, even though it has a rather liquid structure and is easily distributed. I cleaned off the dye after exposing myself for forty minutes. I could already tell the hair was smooth and sticky while I was rinsing.

It turned out that the color was extremely rich, had a hint of blue in some areas, and was deeply embedded in the scalp. It turned a deep purple and washed off the scalp after a few hair washes.

I felt that purple was too dark after blonding, so I started using restorative masks actively once more. The Unitones dye, in contrast to IroIro, was slightly more soluble and washable.

I also used Unitones to bleach and dye my eyebrows, as you may have noticed. The color remained in my hair for two weeks and on my skin for roughly three days.

I made the decision to bleach my hair after a month and a half in order to get rid of all the pigment. All I did was mix the bleaching powder with 3% oxide in a 1:3 ratio and apply it to my hair, just like IroIro. The last time the color left my hair instantly, only a sunken, bright pink pigment was left behind.

My gradient was made with Unitones Amethyst. The pigment was easily and quickly washed off the hair into a pink base because it was mostly blue in color and more transparent. Maybe I should have diluted the previous dye or started the purple transition with it.

The dyeing process, the result and impressions

I used the direct action pigment from Concept to dye a single strand of purple. I dyed my mother’s hair purple all the way through. Let’s examine each scenario.

I took pure ash-colored hair dye and used it to create a single strand. The result was a stunning shade of pure purple with no pink or blue undertones.

But after two weeks, the purple had faded to just a hint of lavender. The purple was eliminated during the subsequent blond toning.

Level 10 lightening was also applied to Mom’s hair. Concept was the obvious choice because we needed a transient purple. To ensure that the pigment would be completely removed, I further diluted it. Pinkish tones predominated at first, but they eventually faded to lavender-violet.

Secret pigment

I asked myself, "What do I want?" after realizing that none of the dyes I had previously tried had completely satisfied me. I took out the first palette of purple hues and started paying attention to my emotions to find the color that speaks to my heart.

The shades of lavender and violet particularly moved me. But where can I get the exact same color direct-acting pigment? Diluting the current colors did not produce the desired results.

Purple is a secondary color. The easiest way to get it is to mix red and blue. In this case, it will turn out a classic purple, which we are used to seeing it. I needed lilac, and to find out what colors are needed to get it, I turned to "online color mixing". I adjusted the shades of red and blue until I got the desired color.

As you can see, I have to combine a pink and a blue direct-action pigment to achieve the desired color. Naturally, the website’s mixing is "sterile"—different pigmentation, extra ingredients, and shade errors aren’t taken into consideration—but I was determined to try making my own purple.

I chose not to spend money on pricey pigments just for this experiment; instead, I purchased Blue Ocean Tonic and used Bad Girl Sugar Baby for pink. Selecting a pink that doesn’t transition into purple is crucial, as doing so will prevent the final color from being eggplant.

About dyes

Two domestic brands that make direct-action pigments and hair toning products are Tonica and Bad Girl. Dyes range in price from 250 rubles to 500 rubles. The dyes are reasonably priced; you can find them on Ozon and Wildberries, in hypermarkets and cosmetic supermarkets, as well as online.

To dilute any pink, use a 2:1 ratio of colorless conditioner. I applied an aloe vera and Kallos moisturizing mask. After adding two to three drops of Tonika to the already-diluted pink, we fully mix.
